formula fords use the 7/11 crossflow mate, same bellhousing bolt pattern as the pinto though so i'm assuming you could get a clutch to mate the two if needed

edit: only just realised this doesnt help with your question but i'd keep an eye on ebay, proberbly your best bet

in theory then it should bolt up to a YB then? with a gearbox, i just looked it up an historic formula fords used a 1600 an 2.0 pinto so should be able to use a formula ford clutch too

the hewland they use is actually based on a vw beetle gearbox. Plenty for sale usually on www.racecarsdirect.com - called a mk9

edited to say if would be to weak if your planning big hp, in which case you need an fgb with a ford adapter, bu that going to be 5k plus secondhand

unless youre going to hang the rear suspension off the casing like in a formula ford, I see no point in using a horrifically expensive casing wrapped around an inverted beetle cluster. Personally Id be getting an audi 1.8 turbo engine and transaxle and fitting that. Same basic box layout, 5 speeds, strong, reasonable power, modern engine that doesnt eat valvegear and then design your own suspension like Andy gallaghers multilink of a kitcar style frame made of box with double wishbones tied into the cage.

its a mates car an hes somewhat a purist so puttin a VAG engine in a ford is a big no no in his eyes, i did suggest but he almost gave me a slap lol, rear is going to be space framed so we can pretty much make wot we like there, its going to be a track car too so its gonna be N/A too i think

Like I say, the hewland box is just a beetle box in a clever case with all the suspension mounts etc inbuilt. If youre not using any of that, its a LOT of money for a transaxle box. Youd be better off using a renault or audi one with an adaptor for the ford flange IMO (theyre 50 quid instead of a couple of grand)
