u sure its 4x4 and standard looking?! only one i know about which are rare as fuck are the ford 1700Ts which were based on a mk3 and were RWD but canned in the end as the quattro's came onto the scene and wasnt worth fords while hence them developing the rs200!! but they were far from standard looking...............

The Ford Escort RS 1700T was a prototype RWD car designed by Ford Motor Company in 1980 to compete in Group B rallying. Prototypes were based on the MKIII Escort and featured a Cosworth developed 1.8 litre turbocharged four cylinder engine that produced over 300BHP maximum power.

To be honest mate I'd just buy a Gartrac or similar car.
If its a genuine Ford one - if they did such a thing - its likely to use something bespoke which you cant easily replace if you break it.

Ford did devolp a 4WD kit for the RS Turbo, but it was shelved, due to unreliability issues and also other projects that were deemed more important IIRC...
Way back in the 80's i knew a guy that was going to buy this very kit for his big powered Series 1...a kit was found in Germany and it wasn't cheap, but it was incomplete and to get the missing parts remade would have cost alot,so the idea was forgotten about.
I'm sure if you dig around in one of the respected Ford writers book (Graham Robson etc) you will find some info on this project.

hi mate i started a thread on this back in nov 2005 but it was only about the mark 4 s2 that many on
here didnt know about im not aware of the mark 3 but i do understand shells were made then cut up, is it a genuine mark 3 shell or one just cut up and made up read my thread link below to one guy making his own ????
https://passionford.com/forum/genera...this-post.html
also on the second page this was said about the mark 3 escort
was it a prototype ?????????
Apparently grangers mum was given a prototype 4x4 escort to run round in, however my boss is convinced that this was at the time of the mk3 escorts not mk4 so I have no idea wether this was Cosworth powered or BDT powered.
The car was lent to her son one night to get to a gig he was performing at and he managed to stick it in a ditch
nothing was said by Ford although he was shitting himself

i know the first 2.0 cosworth turbo ford was a mk4 escort using a sierra floorpan on an s2 turbo base and was made by ford themselves just before they made the sierra cossy it was in passionford a bit back had slightly wider arches than a standard s2
