Rent a car to use in Europe
Just wondering if anyone knows you can rent a car here, to then use for trip in Europe? As most say you cant take out of the country etc.
You need their agreement, in advance and IN WRITING.
A clerk at the counter saying it is OK is NOT good enough - the small print in the rental Agreement will stipulate that employees are NOT authorised to vary the standard terms.
Another option may be to fly to europe and pick up the car there, but you could still have the same problem if visiting more than one country.

Iain looking to take it to about 4 different countys (1 being UK). Will have to drop the big companies an email asking. As mainly on their web sites it says must stay within country of origin.
As said bigger companies will, just be aware that in certain countries you need not only written evidence of authority but also the V5, not having it can land you in jail, if driving in certain countries don't forget it is an arrestable offence to not have a certain amount of money for each person in the car, and that there needs to be a reflective jacket for every person carried also, along with spare fuel, fire ex, bulb set, beam benders etc the list goes on.

You don't need and won't get the V5 for a hire car from any company.
Instead you will get a VE103 Vehicle On Hire Certificate IF the hire company agree to let you take the car across borders.
As Tabetha says, different countries have different rules on equipment to be carried, like bulbs, hi-vis for driver only/all passengers, triangles, etc. (eg, if you need specs to drive, Spain insist that you carry a spare pair in the car).
The responsibility for all this is yours, though our hire car in Spain last year did have a single hi-vis jacket.
