capello made the right choice, as captain you have to have the respect of everyone in the squad and im sure the squad is devided on this. plus as just a squad member he wont have to talk to the media and can just do what he is best at. playing cb. its not like he wont have a role to play in the team. he just wont wear the arm band.

rio was the wrong choice though. past it imo at the top level. been found out a few times recently and i think after the world cup he wont be about the international scene much longer.

i would have given it to lamplard. capello doesnt seem to rate gerrard as he's been overlooked twice now for the captaincy, rooneys got too much of a fast fuse, barry is far too quiet on the pitch for me although he has captained aston villa for years before he moved to man city, and beckham cant be captain from the bench. that only leaves lampard for the job for me. will play every game and i dont think the captaincy would be a burden on him.

we just gotta hope and pray that rio ups his game now he has the arm band
