Default A Quick Question for any of the P/F House Alarm Engineers

I have just fitted a new upvc front door and now need to refit the magnetic reed switch to it, I spoke to a spotty kid in maplins "probably the manager" and he said that you can only place them side by side with the screw heads facing you which is how it was on the old flush timber door, is this true or can you turn the magnet sideways on the door section as shown in the diagram, the red dotted lines are screws by the way.

I will be packing out the reed switch to the position of the magnet.

Any help appreciated cheers

If you think it will work why not just try it and see if it makes contact? Don't know what alarm you have but the Gardtec ones i fit on occasion you can just put it in test moe to see if things like mag catches are working effectively. As said though, some are 'polarised' if you like, where the part with the wiring in needs to be facing the magnet in a certain way.

As above, hold it up and try it. If you listen really carefully, you can usually hear the click as it operates. Proper quiet though...

If you need to space it off by quite a lot, I have used the switch one from another pair underneath as a spacer

Cheers for the replies Gents, I just tried what St3V3 C said and it does clink on all 4 sides of the magnet also by the looks of it I probably won't need to space the reed switch section off the frame because it clinks when the magnet is about 10mm away,

Happy Days! thanks again
