Yep it was to the tsunami appeal. He was in an interview on the news earlier. He lost his bodyguard and the bodyguards two kids in Thailand so affected him personally.

Very good and noble thing to do, but personally I would have even more respect for him if he'd kept it quiet. .....

I find it very sad and extremely disturbing that it is all turning into a who's done best, who's given the most and who can do better. The media are probably much to blame for it, but that "look how much I have given and how good I am " race between the helping countries is more than unappropriate....

So what if they want to play off against each other

If more high profile people do it the more money gets donated to help and thats the whole bloody point of it , and making it public will only encourage other big names to donate too

Edited to say that maybe now it public then other top F1 stars will donate money too , including money bags Bernie Eccles
