Default Anyone converted their ford battery square terminals to round ones? SORTED!

As title the battery on the cossie have given up and im fed up of charging the fooker ! Ive been searching for 2 days for a decent varta or bosch battery and no one seems to make the flat terminal ones anymore

So has anyone converted their ford to run round terminals ? i just want to see what people have done with the battery block etc as it wont fit on the round terminals.

Tony

euros also do a kit too, its the best idea as old fords are the only square terminals and when ians focos killed the alternator he could only swop batterys with a fiesta turbo that was with the group, round terminals and he could ahve swopped with anyone of us

What does the kit look like?

I've got a bosch battery with the bosch adaptor, but I'm not happy with it - I've ended up with some nasty bends in the live cables.

I was told that some VW's have a distribution box, so one main cable runs from the battery to it and all the other lives are terminated inside. Not seen one yet though.

Don't people find it a problem with these adapters on some cars as Sierra and Granada models have a separate plate that bolts to the battery which all the extra wires screw onto which could foul on things?

For my Capri I just chopped a pair of the round clamps from a scrap Mondeo cutting them off where the wire terminates into the clamp then just put the clamp bolt through the hole in the square terminal on the Capri wires and that works ok....... Problem is on the Sierra theres the terminal arrangement on the + wire to accomodate.

Yeah I had this issue on my mk6 escort about 2 weeks ago! There is a metal plate connected on the positive side! When i went to the first motor factors who told me on the phone they had a battery suitable for square terminals blah blah blah...get there and he tells me i cant use the smaller cheaper battery as the plate wont fit...i knew this was crap as the battery i had on my car at the time was exactly the same So i thought sod it..left there and went to another store, who knew what they were talking about! The first one i went to told me that the square terminal batteries had been discontinued...but the second one told me this was wrong information ... so....

it is possible to change them over, its just like a bolt on type thing looks easy enough to do!

Untrue, exide operates in over 80 countries with a last year $3.3 BILLION turnover, they make thier own batteries, if anything they would be making for bosch.
I prefer Varta Blue myself, got a KA(2000) one today, was £46 inc vat for 5 year warranty.
Place I use has loads of ford terminal ones in stock, there is at least one maker still doing these as market is big enough to warrant it.
On my battery as I have some extra lecky stuff I used another live terminal block bit that takes all the wires, bent the bit that the bolt goes through 180 degrees so underneath, then used on the neg side keeps thing really tidy then.
