Default Idling problems zetec 1.25

Hi I'm a new member, Just drove my mothers car and it has a problem which I would like to fix myself as I hate paying extortionate garage fees.
Fiesta 1.25 zetec "T" reg. 7200 miles. The engine is over running when coming to a stop. It revs up to 2000 rpm then dies back to 1000rpm after about 5-10 secs which i think is still a little high for idle.
Any advice please?
Many thanks in advance

Clean the Idle Control Valve. WD40 and an air compressor to blow it through.

Should be 2 or 3 bolts holding it on under the inlet.

either idle control valve as above or throttle position sensor, more then likey the icv though, two bolts 8mm iirc, if you do go for a replacement make sure you match it up by comparing the underside (side which bolts onto the engine ) and matching one with the same pattern up, there are two types one with circle cut outs and one with a more square cut out

shouldnt be no more then 25 quid for a scrappie

Look at the wheel speed sensor, the rpm is artificially held high when driving to aid smooth gear changes, it sounds as though it is not getting a good enough signal from sensor that it is stopped moving.
