Default Fiesta Mk3 Binding Brake.

The car didn't get much use over christmas and now the passenger side caliper is binding, so the car needs to be ragged a lot more than normal to get it moving.

On Friday, I took the caliper off and the pads out and tried freeing the piston with the piston tool and foot pedal but it is still binding.

I was wondering if any of you could shed some light on this problem?

Thanks in advance.

When I get in the car and its cold, the steering is normal and light (for no P.A.S) but when its been drove for a while the steering seems to get tougher. Could these problems be related?

You say you looked at the piston but did you check the sliders? These often gunk up and stop allowing the caliper to move as it should.

yes the steering will be related to the caliper binding.

get someone to sit in the car and press the pedal, then you move it back with mole grips keep doin it back an forth, spray some WD40 in behind the seal..

as oranoco also sais, take the slider pins out, wire brush them, then some wet an dry to get them smooth, copper grease and put it all back together, with the piston pushed right in give the caliper a push an pull to makesure it's free..

Yes, I fully wirebrushed the sliders before re-installing the pads with copper grease.

Thanks for the replys.

This is what I have already carried out. I did the pedal pushing whilst my step-dad had the caliper tool on the piston. Then I reinstalled the pads after cleaning the sliders and where the pads sit then applied some copper grease on the pads and the sliders.

Use diesel fuel to lube the area behind the dust cover, works beter, or parrafin/heating oil.
