Default escort RST series 2 starting problem

My escort RST starts first time even proven in the latest sub zero temps
The issue I have is that after initial start up and running when I switch off it will not start again from warm ,buy it will start again after an hour or so which is keeping me off the road at the moment.
Anyone had the same fault and what was the fix ? appreciate any help.
Allan

your starter is right under your turbo and the heat from the turbo heats the starter solenoid thats why it wont start til it cools down, common problem on rs turbos mate try heat wrappin your turbo and downpipe with heat wrap tape. hope this helps mate.

yes i have,

but it can be due to a number of reasons, would be handy if you could tell if it wasn't starting due to being too rich or too lean......

Mine was too rich, i measured the water temp sensor (which the simple ecu relies heavily upon) and the car thought it was -15 deg or something lol so was over fueling. This wasn't obvious at start up because the car had a massive air leak as well.

As above, starter can get cooked, but you will hear it struggle to turn the engine over. Another problem maybe poor compression when warm which is easy to test with a compression tester.

Probably not the starter solenoid as the starter turns over the engine no probs, but hanks for the suggestion.

Turn the car over, whip a plug out and let us know what you see.

Am i right in thinking that there are cold start valve problems with the Escort Turbo?
