Default scalextric?

i used to be into it a while back but have now sort of forgotten everything, so want to start from scratch

what's the best kit to go for, considering that my son is nearly 4 and he wants to have a go (and my daughter, who's 18 months, will certainly want to break stuff )

cheers

A friend of mine got his old scalextric out from the loft which he has had since the 80's. We set it up and all worked ok. We decided to go out and buy some more track, but it worked out cheaper to buy a whole new set.

The new set was awesome.

The new track was better ( old track slowed down the new cars).
The new cars were double the speed and stopped alot quicker.
The new evo was 4wd.
went around corners alot faster.

We put all the old stuff back in the loft as none of it was worth using compared to how good the new stuff is.

Have a look at the SCX sets as they're often cheaper and fully compatable with Scalextric. You can buy a fairly basic set and upgrade and expand bit by bit

my dad build me a track that we lowered down from the conservatry roof so it was at waist height not on the floor. bloody loved it, banked corners, bridges, fake grass, crowd stands, barriers with logos on

cousin gave me a few of his bits and bobs, got some great bits of track from him, then i polished the tracks and it was as fast as the new sets

anybody else wanting to have a play with theirs now
