Default Oil Light

I have noticed a problem with my s2, when driving it as I come to a stop ocassionaly it will start to struggle to idle and the oil light will flicker this happens at about 1000rpm, it can happen if I have been driving it hard or normal. Any ideas??????????

Take the sump off and clean out the oil strainer.

Avoid driving it until you have made sure the pick up pipe is clear as suggested. Then get it to a garage for the oil pressure checked or do it yourself.....

I hope you haven't been driving it like this for any length of time other wise there could be engine damage....

What can be the worse that can happen? Could it be because the setup is not right

You could be many miles from home with lots of lumps of engine all over the floor and nothing of any value at all under the bonnet.

The oil pressure warning lamp is probably the most critical warning lamp on your dash. It warns you of imminent wallet raping and pillaging if you do not stop the engine IMMEDIATELY it lights up when the engine is running. It should go out when you start the car and not come back on again untill the engine stops AT ALL. It is a mechanical pressure switch which is pressed by the oil inside the engine which is under pressure. Should this pressure drop then the light comes on to tell you that there is no oil going round your engine to lubricate it. Either you have oil pressure problems or your wiring to the switch is touching to earth slightly.

DO NOT assume it is touching to earth slightly as if you do and it is in fact an oil pressure fault then your engine will become scrap metal pretty quickly! Check the pressure first and if it is ok, then move onto the wiring/switch.

It has NOTHING to do with the set up of the car.

i can GUARANTEE that you have low oil pressure! i wouldnt drive the car like this at all! i get worried when my cab gets to 15 Psi of oil pressure!
There are a coupple of major possibilities...
1 the oil gallery/picup pipe is clogged with swarf.
2 the main bearings/big ends are fudged
3 there is an oil leak somewhere in the preasurised system (would be fairly noticeable!
4 the oil pump is knackered

No disrespect but it wont be the pressure switch in this case as the car struggles to idle...
the light will only flicker due to dodgy switch if the car is otherwise running fine..
