why do simular cars have suh different top speed and acceleration ?
If you had 5 cars, same spec. straight off the production line using the same driver, the performance over the same track or route would be almost identical.
5 cars still original identical make / spec, say 15 years old, would have very similar performance.
There are too many variables to be able to answer the O.P question.
It's like trying to compare Hobnobs to Custard creams.
They are both biscuits, that's it.

Not the same filter used on both cars.
Tyres probably different.
Measured on a R.R, where 2 runs with the same car will differ.
Ford didn't use the same R.R to give the 106 spec.

R/R Days are good for meeting up for a blether, listening to different exhausts/cars being thrashed and thats about it.. I wouldn't place great faith in the figures produced.
Cheers,

Yea, but were the pressures identical in the tyres? Did you both use the same fuel, filled from the same garage, at the same time? Was the mileage on the cars identical? Do you both use your cars in exactly the same way, i.e heavy traffic only, weekend 5k+rpm only...
