Default where's my chatter gone!

Hi guys,

bit of an odd one, took the car out today and noticed that it wasnt chattering as it use to. It had been fine yesterday and I havent worked on it as such to disturb anything. There are no signs of black/blue smoke when driving, but one thing i noticed was the boost gauge no rising above 0 when giving it some.

I've not had a chance to look over the vacuum pipes just yet. Its a 2.0 zvh running on mfi, has been chipped with a worked head on a cossie turbo. Was only running on about 12psi when I last checked the boost gauge.

Any ideas? Whats the best way to fault find incase it isn't a hose or something.

Cheers

Dave

its not going above 0 psi?...

mine did this. checked all my hoses and wasnt that.

the amal valve wire had come off so it was staying closed so the actuator wouldnt open the wastegate. if the wires are fine on the amal valve check it clicks when u turn the ignition on as it should click if it is functional.

if above is fine you could check actuator, i had this problem again when i fitted a new 1 and i didnt put enough pre tension on the actuator.

other than that could be penny washer not sealing on the wastegate properly maybe?!?!

as above, if you havn't got any boost at all it wont chatter will it such as there is nothing there to chatter, so find out where your boost has gone, ie leak actuator broken, amal valve fault, bleed valve broken ect. not only that i didn't think on mfi it would "chatter" anyway because of metering unit.

cheers for the replies guys, i will have a proper look over the car and let you know what was found. As for the chatter, i didnt think it would and never realised it did until the dump valve was removed. Chattered away rather loud and i much prefer the sound of that over the dv. Hopefully its nothing to major, it just made it back onto the road again !

Cheers

Dave

as above check for boost leaks,im very surprised u hear chatter at 12 psi?
if i disconect my dump valve i can very faintly hear it and mine is running 15psi? i would have thought more boost would create louder chatter?

Mine chatters like no tomorrow running 20 psi!!! but then again she is on efi so no restrictions on deadning sound like the metering unit. but mine chatters then dumps with the dump valve connected, sounds awesome, best of both!

hmm not sure why its was so noticable on mfi, but you could distinctly tell, esp when my dv was removed at grove, remember thinking on the drive home from grove that 'im sure i told mark to remove the dv from the cross over', popped the bonnet, saw no dv and realised it was turbo chatter!

I have never liked turbo cars, always liked the responsiveness of n/a or a supercharged lump....... i bought my rst on a whim...... and then it chattered and all was well again.

Chatter is the billy bollox of car noises

If Jesus was to make a noise when he farted, it would be turbo chatter.
