Default st170 brake upgrade (bearings gone??)

hi, i did have a search for this but couldnt find anything.

i have a 2000 2l focus zetec. i've just bought st170 hubs/knuckles and callipers. one of the hubs seems to have quite a bit of play in the bearing (i can rock it from side to side). i cant check the other hub as disk is on and dont have my tools with me at uni to dissasemble t and get the disk off.

will bolting it all up on the car to the drive shaft stop this and is it normal when off the car??

if they are buggered how much for new bearings and can i do them myself at home with a big socket and hammer? oh and are new bearings marked so i dont put them in the wrong way round ??

thanks for your help

Phil

The bearings are split and will tighten up when the drive shaft is in.

New bearings need pressing in, if they are worn out.
