Had mine now since end of last year and it's fantastic. In fact it's better than fantastic.
It's fast, easy to navigate, loads things quickly, absolutely fantastic web browser. Plays embedded flash videos in the web page. The only thing I can't seem to get it to do is load the full version of Passion Ford. Is there a link from the mobile site to the full site?
Apps are appearing for them now and it can only get better. There is an app now to send picture messages although I have yet to try it. Got some old skool games like Duke Nukem and Doom on it.
When there is an update available for the software or any app you have installed, a little yellow exclaimation mark flashes up next to the clock and you can update over the air/WLAN. Mine is connected to the net permenantly and as a result, battery life can be a little short but I'm using it as a secondary phone and my N97 as my primary phone.
The multi tasking capabilities are fantastic. Just keep opening more and more apps at the same time, loads of web pages/windows and the phone just keeps working. I've never tried it but I've heard of people trying to run as much as 30 different applications at the same time without the phone slowing down.
The Maemo software is just beautiful to use compared to S60 Symbian.
The phone doesn't fit as nice in your hand or pocket as an N97 but it's a superficial issue.
If you don't want an S60 powered Nokia and don't want an iPhone then I can't recommend it enough.

I've got one.
I'm abit of a Nokia Fan Boy (and general mobile geek) and put off my upgrade till this came available. I couldn't bring myself to get an iPhone or a Blackberry. Soo glad I waited. As far as I'm concerned this is better than both and only getting better!
People will say that there are limited apps for it at the moment but it's a new device and the Meamo5 OS is a relatively new to the phone market. There will be plenty on their way soon. I read a short piece from an iPhone App Developer saying that when he had a go at making something for the N900, he was very impressed and actually preferred it to the iPhones OS.

several apps that i recommend.
petrovich which allows you to send stuff by bluetooth like a normal phone and fMMS which allows you to send MMS messages.
another good functionality app is ukeyboard. adds a pop up keyboard iso you don't.have to use the main key board if you dont't want to.
to use the web browser in portrait mode, press the cntl shift and O button at the same time and it will auto rotate.
i had 25 apps running at the same time last night just to see how it would cope. it was starting to slow down around the 20th app. i don't.think you'll ever need that amount of apps running at any one time but it does show how well it can multitask.

I haven't paid for a single app for it yet! You get them from the App Manager application on the 2nd menu page and down load them straight to the phone itself over the air. No doubt there will be some apps that will need to be paid for. You can get some from Nokias OVI store that need to be paid for and you can do that through your phone bill without having to get your bank card out. Most expensive seem to be games at about Ł4. You can go straight to the OVI store or use the App Manager and browse through the catalogues. You'll probably understand better when you've actually got it in your hand and start playing with it, the phone that is!!
There are sources other than Nokia, you just need to add their catalogues to the App Manager when you find their repository details and the App Manager adds their apps to the list.
