Default different insurance question????

hi,about 1.5 months ago i took out insurance for my van through comparthemarket.com,i cancelled it within 14 days as i sold the van.
i called the insurance company and cancelled the policy which i had paid for in full and was told they would credit me £146.
they requested i send back the certificate which i did and would be issued with a cheque.
this was a few weeks ago and i have not received a cheque and i dont have any paperwork relating to the policy nor do i have a clue who the insurance was with.
how can i find out who im insured with to chase them up for this cheque?i went back onto comparethemarket and all i could get was a reference number for the 1st qoute i got and no reference to the company who provided the cheapest qoute.
that will teach me to net throw things out!!!

What does the reference number for the quote begin with? Sometimes insurers will use references relevant to them i.e. Admiral may use ADQ or something like that...

Failing that check your bank statement.
