Default paint

if its giong too be under high heat ie a rocker cover normal paint is ok only if its two pack! but if u go to B and Q u can buy a paint called plasti kote its a very shiny hard wearing heat proof paint that sprays well too (comes in a spray can) also in lots of colours mate and they do a primer so u can prime it then wet and dry it nice and smooth they also do a lacquer gives a really good finish

I found rattle can paint a little soft, when I tightened down the cover the paint seemed to rinkle?

looked nice - this is prior to a polish up

if it has any sort of baffle in it i'd cut it out, clean it thorougly then re-tack it in place, you CANNOT guarantee all the shot is out, i've saw engines wrecked from shot blasted rocker covers...

i had mine powder coated on my gti and it went all pitted after about 600 miles as said was mint when done

and my series 2 was a chrome 1 from as autos got it blasted and as said had the baffle removed as ive heard of the shot wrecking engines
it was etch primed 2k primed 2k paint and laquer and has been spot on and has a better finish than the powder coated 1

the powder coated 1 cost 40 all in
the painted 1 has cost 25 thats inc blasting too the charge cooler is powder coated though

normal paint and laquer will look shit its not high temp so it will crack and fade thats why u have to use 2 pac paint on something like a rocker cover i used plasti kote on mine from B and Q thats made for high temp i laquered it to with there laquer and ive had no problems at all still very shinny

I have not had any problems with mine and that was 'normal' paint. It's been 2 years since it was painted and no cracking and no fading.

For the header tank and the lifting eye i used Plasti-kote rust not (just because i had some) and that has been fine too,

thats the gamble u take maybe u had a good quality paint but its not meant to be used for high temp stuff read the can lol

yeh looking close at my standard original blue big turbo rocker cover theres only a light wafting of ford blue and deffo no laquer,if i could not have it exactly the same ie the milled effect in the exposed part where the logo's are i would not bother,i find when they go shiny they look a bit too home made, mine still has the milled effect in it and i would hate to lose that.

Dont use normal spray can laquer its not good enough to last on a rocker cover, even 2k lacquer can dry out and crack but thats the best to use, u can actually buy cans of 2k lacquer too which would be more durable. Obviously u can get high temp lacquers etc.

I did mine in candy blue with about 3 coats of high solids lacquer so hopefully will last, also painted my inlet in a course metallic silver which looks pretty good

Don't suppose you can use std rattle can for the colour, then plasti cote laquer on top, if its more durable?
