Default Got a computer virus just now, can people help me get rid?

Dammed lap top is coming up with all sorts of errors, ones that are saying enable windows firewall protection, and then links coming up to so called virus eradicating sites or what ever there called. Dammed computer geek whats the point
I was looking at the thread earlier about defraging so I think i've done that, but dont know how to wipe my temp files, cookies or other things that may help?????
I'm running windows vista basic. Any tips

Sounds like what I got a while back. Try running the free version of THIS.

Thanks Mal, i've dowloaded that, BUT whhen i click on it it, it want to open in internet explorer which is'int working, it hasent been working for a while. I don't know if a virus is trying to overrun the protection stuff by just putting it to internet explorer and not running

try system restore and roll it back a couple of days may work may not, but it is reverseable

Its buggered, it completly shut down on me when i was writting a big post, then I had to fight past one of its messages just to get wireless reconected, but it wont let me get onto aol. So i've had to come on with a different computer

Alex its vista basic

I had norton with the laptop but it ran out and never renewed as i never seemed to get "anything" been like that for years. I will try those if i can get it back on the internet

How do i system restore?

Now the cursor from the mouse is shaking all over the place to stop me clicking on things and prior to that it just wont open aol, to let me on the net to download some anti virus stuff.
