Question I need advise on an engine swap on my fiesta mk4

I have a fiesta mk4 1.25 16v zetec. I have been looking to fit 1.4 or 1.6 zetec from the same age 95-01 out of a fiesta or focus or escort. Are these engines the same dimensions but just boured deaper? and would i need a new fuel pump and air filter and would my loom just connect? I assume the gear box would work or one supplied with engine would fit. I have worked on cars before just this is the biggest project i have thought about so any advise would be champion and thanks you for your time.

RST conversion (EFI)

cheap and cheerful, plenty of tuning potential and parts are readiliy available

I know a few people who have gone the "pumesta" route, they seem to like it at first but soon get used to the power which you are pretty much restricted to unless you spend a lot of cash. A good EFI power plant would make an easy 180bhp and they are pretty cheap on the rebuild side of things, tuning is not limited at all, only by your wallet

Hope this helps

Although this I'll most likely never do this (through laziness more than anything else), I've been thinking about Fezzy engine swaps for aaaaages. I'm pootling around in a 1.25 facelift Mk4 and I'm fed up with having to apply for planning permission to accelerate. Also, it's dismally underpowered on the motorway and the power/weight ratio is all wrong for any travel above 40mph.

However, I'm imagining if one was to swap out with a 1.7 from a Puma, you'd need to uprate a few things - brakes, possibly clutch, suspension as well? I've no idea as to the potential costs and I'm very interested to hear more from people who've already done an engine swap.

I got the same engine in my mk4 fezzy and I can totally agree with the comment of driving on the motorway thinking of sticking a 2 litre zetec in mine not sure wot version to get tho and wot mounts to get. Originally i was going to fit the puma lump in but was worried about tuning it and it costing loads of money
