Default AVG 9 running slow

D/loaded free version of AVG9 after been prompted too and it's running very slow. Or, I should say opening windows on either firefox or IE.

If I turn off resident shield and link scanner it's like it's back to normal. Maybe a common problem with it?

Any quick fix, or do I uninstall 9 and go back to the last version?

I would personally uninstall it and use Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

I'm no expert, but was recommended by a friend in network security to use Avast.
Virus definitions are updated daily, and I've had no problems using it!

+1 for avast, 2 years without virus for me. I had to install AVG to use the network at college and it slowed my computer down no end, especially web browsing. I keep AVG turned off apart from when logging on at college.

been meaning to try avast for ages as AVG has become bloated hence slowing PC down noticably even more so with the latest version 9.

so i installed Avast and it works very well the updates are much better than AVG, also noticed browsing is now much faster

but in AVG defense i have been virus free since i have had that installed for many years so it does do the job and free
