Default Torrents......

OK, after about 30 posts by me trying to figure out how to use Torrents, I have decided that for simplicity, I am going to use Shareaza as my 'Client', as I am used to it having used it for P2P.

My question now is what is the best way to find Torrent files? I have searched Google for Torrent searches and some sites seem free but fairly limited, some want to charge and others want you to download Search Software.

WTF?

Just download and install u wont even know it's there until you click on a torrent link and the client will start up automatically. All you have to do after that is pick where u want to save the torrent to

All torrent forums you'll need to sign upto now and have a minimum post count. I hang about just the one thats in my signature as I'm a super mod on there but I post alot of my movies on different torrent sites to keep the seeds up.

I have registered on a couple of sites and apparently passwords are on the way. No sign yet though.

Most don't seem to be taking new members. Those that I have been able to search so far seem shite for content compared to P2P. I must be doing something wrong.

So, how do you use Google for Torrents then??

If you get a legible answer to that question, I will be gutted because after about 10 thread, I still don't really follow.

right i will run you through it.

Torrents are non windows associated files, i.e you need a 3rd party client for your PC to recognise them and do what there supposed to do.

Clients to use are (ABC, Torrent Storm, Bit Tornado)

These clients basically recognise these files when clicked on and will run through the process of saving them.

The torrent file itself contains information about the file you wish to download, its not the file itself, hence its not illegal to host torrent files.

The file isnt one large file on 1 persons PC like other P2P programs, i.e Kazza, MinMX etc etc.

Its 1 file split into hundreds and hunders of segments (depending on the size of the file)

This means that the client can download several segments from several different PC's at once, providing there is more than 1 PC with the segment or file needed

PC's sharing the file are called SEEDS, so if you have 1 seed the chances of you getting that file in 1 hit and quickly are highly unlikely. So the higher the seed number then generally the higher the download speed.

Seeds are only counted for people online at that current time sharing that current file.

Right back to what happens.

Basically the client takes all the segments and peices them all together to make one file and bobs your uncle.

Any more questions?

Have you checked your junk mail folder?

Not any the ones I sent you are shite Some of the best torrent sites still available I have sent u. Need to remember 90% of all the torrent sites have been forced shut, had servers raided, admin & mods arrested so quite understandably alot of sites have tightened up there security. You cant now just go onto any torrent forum and leech away till your hearts content you have to be a proven member of these sites by making a few posts etc. Then all the goodies will open up to you

Bad Company if you have a firewall you need to configure it to allow the BT client access properly or you'll just be getting stuck behind your firewall getting piss poor speeds. Another is Windows built in firewall that will cripple your incoming connections and make you have the same piss poor speeds.

Or you could be just getting a file with 1 seeder your speeds will pick up when more people join the swarm or more seeders appear

http://www.bi-torrent.com/
http://www.torrentreactor.com

Best Client is Azureus

http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

Basically you then download the very small .torrent file from various torrent sites. It will then create was appears to be the entire file on your hard drive (Say a 700MB avi) and then it will download small chunks from all the seeds (people who have downloaded 100% of it and are only sharing) and leeches (people who are downloading it but not finished)

The main problem is you are way too late in the day really to be catching on to BitTorrent. Suprnova (the biggest free, non registration site) has been closed, as have lots more. So lots of the registration only sites are no longer accepting registration because of it. Some sites only work on referal.
