Cool Escort GTi Project

hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum so please be gentle!

My R Reg 3 Door GTi is having an RS2000 engine/gearbox conversion done by JD Motorsport in Carlise in the next couple of weeks (booked for next month) but im looking at further modifications..as you do!

Engine wise it has a nice exhaust system and pipercross cone filter with no cold air feed.

I have been doing my reading and it seems that due to the hot engines its better to leave the engine running standard air box but with uprated panel filter and cold air feed....Does anyone have any more information/pics on this?

Also i would like to improve on the rs2000 lump going in and i notice many people using throttle bodies....i have no idea what this upgrade will give me nor how much it will cost...Does anybody have information on this too please?

Last of all....doing the conversion seems pretty straight forward but apart from the fact i'm going to need a rear disk set up from an rs what else am i missing if anything? not to get the look of an rs but performance, safety, handling wise

Many Thanks Guys
Chris

throttle bodies are essentially a throttle for each cylinder, and look like a twin carbrettor conversion, but are more modern and use fuel injection,

if you search for ades mk4 escort estate on here he has fitted throttle bodies to the engine in his car. iirc he gained around 40bhp and they sounded amazing. but cost around Ł1000+

these will replace your whole inlet system right up to the actual head, so personally i would decide what you want from the car, (power wise and in the futue) before deciding on this mod.

as for the airbox mod, this can be done simply by getting an airbox and some ducting, drill a hole in the bottom of the airbox and place the end of the ducting inside with the other end pointing somewhere where it will receive cold air (front bumper ideally)

and you could also buy some exhaust temprate reducing paint to loose some under bonnet temps

Thanks for the info Jammerrs!

I wasn't looking for a Ł1000+ upgrade to be honest, but thanks for explaining what the mod is, maybe i need to be looking at other mods? i would like the car around 170bhp,but im not sure if induction, exhaust and chip will do it

Going back to the air box mods...why would i need to make a hole for the ducting? surely i could attach the ducting to the original lower hole in the standard box?

Please could anybody reading send pictures of the mods they have done as part of induction systems...it would be greatly appreciated!

Best value for money upgrade is 2.3 Galaxy engine conversion
You can always fit throttle bodies later for more power.

Cheers Mark, I have read good things about that conversion (after arranging the RS conversion) but as I say its already paid for and booked in next month.

I'm looking the get the best out of the 2.0 RS Engine that's going in with the least amount of money being spent (I hate saying that but on 15k a year i have too!)

So my ideas are limit to sorting the induction out properly
Adding a chip..then i'm open for ideas

any pics please peoples???

Hard to put a price on it as it was all DIY using GSXR750 throttle bodies (they have 46mm throttle plates) and Emerald management.

Sign up on WWW.RS2000-16V.com for any info, lots of helpfull guys over there

you should upgrade the front brakes mate before the back - the gti already has the bigger drum rear brakes that ford switched to on the later rs2000's anyway.

If you add disc brakes from an RS2k to the rear then you will loose the abs from the GTi.
I hope JDM does the conversion right.
Rs2k brakes for the front are a straight swap for the GTi on the front, the calipers just bolt on and allow for the larger discs.

guys i got the car back today but something seems wrong...

i will add a picture tomorrow but it seems like the gearbox is in the wrong place? the gear stick in the car is in a right funny position like its angled to the passenger or something. its also a bit of a fight down shifting and the stick is hitting the plastic surround when going in 2nd and 4th...is this normal on a gti to rs2000 conversion or have they made a mistake somewere??
also it seems very stiff

PLEASE HELP

Idle problem is bugging me as i cant find the problem anywhere

its up and down hot or cold but until last week it only did it when cold

i have removed and cleaned the iscv but no joy

i noticed under the throttle body there is a small pipe with a bolt in the end of it?? its blocking off a air inlet, when i remove it it sucks air and the revs go up?? it looks like its home made...what is ment to be there and is this causing me any problems?

go back to JD mate, if the conversion was done properly then it should all feel and drive like a stock rs2k.
no excuses as the mk6 can use all OEM parts to do the conversion with.

this isnt the first problem with the conversion, when i have contacted them they have brushed me off as they know they are the the other end of the country...and to be honest i wouldn't trust them to resolve the issues

my gear stick is it the wrong position, easy to change gears if your in the passenger seat.

pipe from airbox to grill...was missing

cat was fucked, altho they sent me another used one

had huge petrol leak a week ago..had to go the garage to repair

tappy tappy tappy engine hot or cold

idle is so bad and annoying

random cable under air flow or throttle body im usure of part name, piece of pip with a bolt in one end...what the hell whats ment be here??

just feel like getting rid..GUTTED

i need alot of help and being a noob with no money left im shagged
