Default What Would Cause A Windscreen To Crack??

On my Focus, i have noticed today theres a crack by the A piler on the N/S.

Its not a stone chip or a impact crack.

Its about 4-5in up from the bottom of the windscreen comes out from the A piler towards the O/S A piler.

A while ago i had someone hit the passenger door and possiblly the sill, going from the N/S A piler (narrowly missing the wing) and finally stopping at the N/S/R quarter.

Since this has happened i have felt that the car doesn't act like it use to with reguard to its handling and even more so since i nearly followed Rolls down the bank onto the A127 at the last Rs Essex meet.

Could the fact that someone has hit my car create handling problems and make the windscreen crack??

I'm really stumpted!

The one on my Clio went. I've had no accidents or anything. Just weird how it happens. It can be the cold. When glass goes warm to cold to warm etc it can cause problems.

also they can crack from the edge if it is not smooth, especially if it is now under a bit of stress, or the cold could start it off. You did say it has started from under the rubber didn't you?

Focus windows are glued in and there isn't much, if any room for the screen to move! If the chassis has moved in anyway near the screen it may of caused a stress crack as said above!

I work for a windscreen company and it is common for people not to notice very small chips. In the line of the crack somewhere usually towards the edge of the glass as that is the weakest part, then from heaters blowing on to a cold or frozen screen it goes. If there is definatly no chip (wont even be able to feel it!) and it comes from the bottom from under the scuttle then it could have gone from the hight block it sits on on the impact and slowly moved up! dont know if that is any help at all.

Or could just spray some de-icer on it. But then again if it goes and your fully comp will just have to say you got a top tinted one in (if you havnt alredy)!
Nice new screen with top tint!
