Default rs turbo crank

hello, i'm gonna rebuild my bottom end and get steel rods and forged pistons and heavy duty bolts but what will i have to do to the crank??? don't want to pay 1400 for a steel one! cheers

Depends on how much torque you are building for and how many revs you are planning on running?

speak to karl norris as hes done lots of research into 1.6 bottomends


i belive the standard crank is fine upto 330bhp i heard was said


or speak to dazc as hes done alot of work on his but unsure of the spec, i know its not set of mahles and arp rod bolts only


might be cheaper to buy shings car , thats a animal and very well setup

make sure you check the journals havent started to taper to one side or anytihng like that, and make sure they are still the correct size, but other than that, should be fine as it is, id get everything balanced too though at 7K rpm

im sujre if hes spending 700 quid on rods hes prob gonna get em balanced

if he spends 700 quid on rods i doubt they will need balancing, ive never found more than a tenth of a gram variation in any set of Arrow or similar rods. its the crank, flywheel, clutch etc as an assembly that i was referring too.

chip i ment if hes gonna spend 700 quid on a set of rods for a car thats worth 1500 to 2 grand ( no offence btw) he will prob spend his time and a few extra quid to make sure its all balanced


what pistons and other parts of the spec ya thinking off


oh and deffo use karl and get the parts off him too

his prices tbh are alot cheeper than ya would think and hes very very well experienced and his rst engines are proved too

also i'm not sure what sort of clutch to get? a paddle will be the only sort to handle the power? i heard they don't last too long??
