After (regretably) selling my ITB'd MK5 Fiesta Zetec-S...




...i started the search for a new runaround. Untill i found this.



So, The new Runabout...

Its a State Blue Mk4 with an FRP engine. Its a fairly good car but it has some niggles which i intend to sort out over the time that i own this.

The Spec as of 25/09/2009

Engine:
- Ford Racing Puma Engine
- Ford Racing Puma Gearbox
- Ford Racing Puma ECU
- Mondeo 2.0 Throttle Body
- Uprated Fuel Pressure Regulator
- Blue Samco Hoses
- Full Milltek with Decat

Body:
- 'Snoopy' Front Splitter
- 'Snoopy' Side Skirts
- Fiesta Zetec-S Rear Bumper
- Smoothed Boot
- Tinted front lights

Chassis:
- Gmax Dampers
- Spax Springs (-60mm i believe)
- Area Six Adjustable Wishbones (professionally set up)
- ST150 Front brakes
- Escort GTi Wheels in Custom Anthracite
- 20.5mm Rear Axle Spacers

Interior:
- RST Recaro Seats
- Custom Floor Mats
- Various Nu-Suede trim

Said car, that most of you know from previous pictures I've put up













Plans which i want to happen.

Interior
- Its a horrible colour. So it will be swapped out for a Zetec-S blue interior which I am in the process of obtaining.
- Various bits such as the roof lining will/have been covered in black Nu-Suede to add subtle class.
- Seats are comfortable but something such as FRP seat will hopefully be on the cards - Im not bothered if this doesnt happen as the Recaro's are really comfortable!
- There are two holes that have been drilled into the floor (for bucket seats i pressume. These need to be welded up ASAP.

Engine
- The engine used to be on a standard Puma ECU with a remap to suit the engine and the upgrades it had. Since then it has been put on a standard FRP ECU which doesnt like the bigger throttle body and extra pressure. So this has to be sorted soon.

Exterior
- It needs a respray really. But i can't justify this much unless i get superly attached to this car. SO hopefully a good Detail and machine polish should get most of the scratches and swirls out.
- Front bumper is in dyer need of a respray

So within the past month i have done the following.

Interior
- Trimmed the A, B and C pillars in Nu-Suede
- Trimmed the Door card material in Nu-Suede
- Trimmed the Headlinging in Nu-Suede (which i swapped with a friend as he wanted it so i have to do it again lol!)
- Trimmed the Kick plastics in Nu- Suede
- Painted all plastics Black (including sun visors)
- Fitted a flocked dash
- Fitted FRP seats
- Fitted ZS rear seats
- Bought a ford Jack and Wheel wrench (didnt have one)

Engine
- New VCT solenoid fitted by OCMotorSport (mine was siezed solid)
- New coil pack and HT leads fitted (the newer versions)
- New standard fuel pressure regulator (still need to be fitted)

It now drivers much better and pulls harder, crackles more and far far better to drive than before. I think the standard fuel pressure regulator should sort out some of the hesitation thats left.

It still needs completely new brakes and i want to get it on some good coilovers. then just tidy up the paintwork.

Yeah the RST Recar's were gorgeous, but they had a few faults which i wants happy with. And i've always wanted a set of FRP seats!

anyways...Fuel pressure regulator was fitted



I then took it for a drive and it was worse than before. Revs were hunting at standstill and was quite jerky.

I cleaned out the ICV and reset the ECU, using a hair dryer to speed up the drying process



Then i remembered that the vacuum hose from the FPR to the throttle body had tape on it, thinking there might be a leak. So taped up the whole vacuum hose properly (untill i can find a new hose)

I tried to get the noise from inside with all the crackles, but the camera being in my lap doesnt really help lol.

Brakes are bloody aweful. I have no confidence in them at all at the moment. I need to get some ST150 Discs ASAP! Regardless of condition - mine are warped to f**k

 

nice clean example there. not a big fan of the mk4 - only because of the headlights, but this is lovely

Lots of people have said that about the lights. I have a soft spot for them as a mk4 was my first car! R.I.P lol!

It's probably the nicest looking MK4 I've ever seen to be honest. Would like to see what it looked like with a MK5 front end though with all the smoked lights etc. Would look very aggressive.

Would also like to see what it looked like with Esc Cos wheels (in the same colour as the existing ones). Think wider wheels would set it off a treat, but without changing the actual style of the wheel which works so well.

Looks great in State Blue. I once had a very low State Blue 3dr Escort GTi which I loved the look of.

Indeed it was, and with the problems it had/has, i paid too much, but he didnt want to budge. Atleast the majority is sorted now!

Brakes got changed this morning - in the pouring rain

The pads still had some meat left on them, but the discs were warped really badly, so they needed changing. Thought the pads might as well get done too...

The car got a major clean today after 500 miles of motorways, rain, mud and dust (England basically).

The car wash washed down and rinsed off.
It then received some clay bar action using AutoGlym Clay and AutoGlym Speed Detailer.
It then received another wash and was dried.
The exterior then got polished with AutoGlym SRP and was wiped down
The interior got vacuumed out and the tyres and seals treated.

finished result...Awesome!

Lots of people say that...i dont mind it but have an idea to make it a touch more aggressive!

Well nothing has been done to this in a while. But some decisions have been made.

Im aiming to buy and do-over a puma engine over christmas. then swap all the FRP bits over and put this engine in the Mk4. Mainly because i want to do a puma engine build but also to get a decent looking and going engine.

Seeing as i've been having problems with the loom, I've decided to swap the whole wiring system for a new set. The current ECU is a TAPE ECU which i have come to understand is a digital one, yet i am running analogue clocks. Whether this matters or not, i do not know. But the whole interior loom will be swapped for a digital one so i have digital clocks, and the engine bay wiring will be swapped over too.

I still need to trim the headlining and paint the centre console.

The rear brakes need sorting, and i want to change all bushes to polybushes (just to gain experience in doing so), as well as changing the wheel bearings.

Hopefully during my christmas holidays the underside will see some attention too (providing the weather is decent) and get a nice coat of waxoyl or hammerite or similar.

Lots on the go but not enough money to do any of it yet.


To start the new spree of spending - I've just bought an FRP rear disc setup

Few jobs were done today that I've been putting off for a while.

Firstly I got all my documents



and swapped this old, soon to expire tax discs



for this lovely new one



Then a Major safety issue. My pretensioners were only being held on with cable ties. It did the job in keeping the airbag light off by having them plugged in and it made it usefull to actually wear a seatbelt, but it wasnt very safe!



So my mate at college got me some nuts to fit the bolts i had



And they are solidly fixed now



then I set about getting this centre console painted black.

Atleast it suits the interior now! Just the headliner and parcel shelf to do!

good work, i really am considering buying one of these fiesta's because theres plenty about and having a puma engine conversion done!

Well its not certain il do it yet, i would have to find the right Mk4 really one that i really like the look of - i know with my mondeo alloys fitted it would transform the total look of the car anyway, what makes yours different is the money that has been spent on the splitters etc.. they really set your motor apart mate.

If its cost effective i might do it
