Default any1 fimiliar with vauxhalls?

ive been looking for a slightly off road type thing as im not gonna use my escort cos to go up some of the shitty lanes and stuff up here.

been looking a hi luxs etc but there all pretty expensive, then i came accros a vauxhall fontera 2.4 4x4 estate. looks like its good enough 4 what i want and its less than £2k.

any1 know if there any good?

cheers

the 4wd system on them is nothing like as strong as a toyota mate, they really dont compare at all, its just a "soft roader" really.

ask on migweb.co.uk (vaux equiv of this site)

lol, that toyota pickup was at their head office for a while after top gear finished with it, i do some consultancy work down there for toyota occasionally.

The marketing bods were over the moon at that episode and they launched a "hilux invincible" limited edition to celebrate it.

dream come true for a car company that was.

If i remember rightly, there are 2 different diesel engines in them, one is very good and the other is to be avoided at all cost. Cant remember which is which tho....

Personally think they're an absolute crock of shit!!

I'd only consider it if I really needed a 4x4 and it was CHEAP cheap.

(And no one was ever likely to see you driving it )

I used a Frontera 2.2 Eco lWB to cart cars all over the country on the trailer, NEVER had a problem in 30,000 miles of running

ok I have had loads of them 2.0 ltr sports are most fun but no room in the back but roof and windows come out making it very much convertable like and engines are cheap to fix PROBLEM on all frontera if the rear diff/axle is noisy walk away this goes together with the gear box as replacments are not cheap for any model !

I have just bought a 2.2 16v longwheel base on a N reg with leather and full electric pack along with chrome side steps etc (later stlye) alloy wheels and LPG conversion for £350 spent about £600 on it having head gasket fixed and gas system sorted out and new exhaust did the work myself I reckon she will retial for about £2200

this is my price guide

j,k,l,m 20i sports in good nick with no noisey box or diff anything up to £1800
J,K,L,M 2.3 Turbo diesel longwheel base STAY WELL AWAY slow loose oil pressure blow up

J,K,L 2.4 longwheel base good models upto £1800

bargains can be had easy as they are not as deserable as shoguns etc load in free papers from about £800 upwards as long as diff and box is ok they are very strong on wet ground grass etc but NOT REALLY A REAL off roader more ulilty car!
