Default New cam, tappets etc..

All,

After driving the car round for a while hoping/praying that the rattles were just where it had been standing still for well over a year i've decided that i need to replace all the following,

Camshaft
Followers
Valve Springs
Stem Seals
Tappets.

Trouble i'm having is that i DONT want to pay a fortune(yeah i know i;m dreaming right) for them looked in all the norm places IE Burtons / Demon Tweeks etc etc all they seem to sell is the usually found loads of Pipper / Kent / Cat Cams(fast road / super sport etc etc), but i cant find STANDARD items .

Can anyone suggest where i may be able to get them from or who i can contact.

Thanks

Barney

You can buy a standard cam from motor factors still, around the £100 mark. Come with the tappets too IIRC

Yup as above, but you will be playing a lottery as to whether they last or just fall apart and send swarf round your engine
CVH Camshafts/lifters are made from poor quality material in recent years, the only company in my experience making good quality cams/lifters are Newmans and your looking at around £290 for the kit.

do you have to run solid lifters with newman or do they do hydraulic kits?

they tried a hydraulic type and it got munched so they withdrew it- not sure if the idea has been shelved or if they've gone back to the drawing board.
I bought a standard one from a motorfactors and its pretty noisy after not many miles- my mate did the same not so long ago and his was still quiet right upto the day he sold it so very much luck of the draw
Worth a punt for £100 imo as even though mine is a bit noisy it still pulls pretty well

motorfactors, mines quiet as, was a BGA one and i don't rate their parts anymore, £65 for the kit and i'm suprised it's not mega noisy yet.
done a few thousand miles without issues, quite surprised, maybe BGA can make a quality product afterall.
