Cosworth yb engine noise. knocking
My 205 blocked saph has what i believe to be piston slap on start up but also once warm it sound like a cam knock but it only makes this noise under load. its definately not the bottom end ie big ends but my concern is that i thought a cam would make a noise all the time and not just under load. any other ideas as to what the noise could be as i cannot buy the bits to fix it unless im sure what the problem is.
thanks

Had a good listen tonight and there is knocking on idle that sounds like its coming from the rear of the head. 16 new followers it is first then. wheres the best place to purchase them as ive seen some on ebay but would assume them to be of inferior quality.

anyone??
cheers

2WD's did suffer from "Piston slap", this was cured on the 4x4 by centraling the gudgeon pin.
If it's not that the lifters can play up as well, to be honest they are far from refined engines, only concern is if there is suspicion it's something like little/big end bearings, although the lifters can be annoying as well.

Then don't even think about starting it!
If the timing is wrong you will cause serious engine damage!
The two cam pulleys arrows should face each other and the auxillary pulley (Dizzy) has a scribe the pulley should line up to as well, alternativly the rotor arm should face the 2 o clock position iirc, crank pulley has a notch it should line up with.
You need to be absolutely sure all this is correct before you even attempt to crank it, the noise could may well of been a valve or 2 getting struck
All you can do is time it up and see how it goes...

HI martysmartie... Thanks for respond me..
I go & time the engine again.. with all arrows/etc correctly..
i start it again & work succesfull without knocking noise..
i have the valve pockets in my pistons..
But i dont know why it lose the timing.. last sunday i park it in the garage in good niose & no knockings. my first start is yesterday & start with lose timing..
I use a Graham Goode belt.. & i always found a little bits of rubber with my pulleys cam after a ride & few very rare with the pulley dizzy... & i dont know if has, with the crank pulley , cause i can`t see it..
Thanks soo muchh
