Default 9/11 Phonecalls from the towers

Did anyone watch it??

The calls just made you realise just how real it was and how many people lost their lives.

Really emotional programme to watch.

watched half of it and sky+'d the rest

me and the Mrs was wathcing it; she was in tears - very sad and does make you evalute things.

Makes you think that so called "problems" we have are pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things

Must have been pretty deep stuff either way.

Some were emergency 911 calls and some were where loved ones had phoned home and left a message on answer machines

i've sky plussed it because i was watching the other film about it last night, which showed what a complete mess of chaos the yanks had back then in air traffic control and to try and get access to scrambling USAF planes. i wonder if all that side of things have really been sorted out now...

so when is the anniversary of 911?

I wonder what 102 mins is like everyday in Iraq/Afghanistan since 'Team America' popped in. I still think it's strange how people seem to think western blood/loss of life is more valuable then other people from other parts of the world; and then big it up with TV programmes, memorials, statues, plaques etc etc....and people wonder why some folk are pissed off with the west when most people don't even bat an eye lid when another 50 or so Iraqis get blown up by another suicide bomber.....strange....very strange IMO....!

I think the ones that tugged most at the heart strings are the calls where they really do know that there is no way out rather than those who maybe made the calls but still had some hope.

The guy who called his wife from a meeting room and when she said get out, he told her people are jumping out of windows from above. That feeling of knowing you are going to die and there is no way out.

Horrific, makes you realise life can take a turn at any time.

That's pretty much my take on it......so why then do people seem to obsess about things like 9/11 when it's pretty much nothing to do with them. Why on earth would a TV program be made about such a subject and who would feel the need to watch it.

Those calls are private and are only really intended for the people they were calling - all seems pretty sick to me and yet something else to big up the deaths at 9/11.

There was nothing special about these people, just like there is nothing special about most people in the world. People are killed every day from simply being shot or in the extreme being blown up in a suicide bomb. These people could be the salt of the earth or they could be such utter scum the world is a better place without them!

9/11 happen, people died, lots more have died since then (related/non related)......so why are the media/people (as in people who have no connection to the event whatsoever) still obsessing about the deaths...

i really dont agree with what you are saying

9/11 was a historic event in recent history; where by terrorism was the route cause - wether you agree or disagree with the reasons behind the hijacked planes is neither here or there. Innocent people lost lives and IMO it should be talked about and discussed - i'm sure it helps the healing process for some. The familes gave their consent for the audio recordings to be played.

If you think we shouldnt obsess about people losing lives i'd be interested to hear what you have to say about the WW1 & WW2.

I can understand the interest in the event itself but not the death of the victims...these people are just like most of us and hence are nothing special...

My main point is what makes 9/11 victims so much more special than say the death of innocent people in Iraq for example ? If time was deadicated to making TV programmes, memorials, building statues, making plaques etc each time a load of innocent Iraqis were killed then we would never be able to keep pace with it all!lol

But seriously, why does anyone need to hear these phone calls, do people get a kick listening to others in peril who are about to die ? What we really need are some close ups on CCTV of them fearing for their lifes while chatting on the phones....nice...not...! I personally just don't get it....

thankfully its subjective, some people want to see/hear it, some dont

nothing makes 9/11 victims more "special" we are all equal

but i think the point you are missing is this is probably the most historic event in recent times where 2000 odd people lost their lives in one go. It will be talked about and docs made about it - its a fact of life that we live in an era whereby media is accessible to most people and the fact that the whole 9/11 event was captured on some form of media device

imagine if we had WW3 now or the Titanic sank 2 years ago, i'm sure that would get the same coverage.

I think UK coverage is excessive for 11/9 especially when weve got our own terrorist tragedies.

Plus 8 years down the road i think people need to start letting go. theres far too many people who were not involved or didnt know anyone even remotely involved in 11/9 yet they are still "mourning" the tragedy and letting it effect thier daily lives.

Theres stupid morons who wont fly because of 11/9 FFS!!!! And other saddos who blame depression or anxiety on 11/9 even though they dont live in the US!!!!

LOL - hmmm let me think for a second, does any remember that earthquake that happened in China back in May 2008....killing an estimated 90,000 people....

And what about the tsunami back in 2004 (boxing day).....killing an estimated 200,000 people....

Thank fook neither happen in America.....we would probably have had dedicated TV channels for it....

And then on to something proper nasty - the Rwandan genocide 1994 - 1 million dead!

(there is lots of shit that has killed people apart from sodding 911!)

Anyway fook those dead people as most are not from the west and are worhless scum...!lol

Dannn, sadly thats how a lot of people view it albeit subconciously Weve got used to seeing starving africans, dead asians, dead arabs all over the screen all from far far away places we dont know or care about. So of course you get used to it and it becomes far from your mind.

Those places really are a different "world" with many of these people living a life worse than animals here and what wed call subhuman conditions and behaviours (think hacking off arms etc - most people would think they are animals acting that way).

But when things happen closer to home, we can empathise with it because its a more familiar lifestyle etc.

Plus ultimately we are all inherently selfish. Would you step over the emaciated dying corpse of a etheopian to ensure you get enough food for you and your family?? (assuming theres not enough to go round) course you would.
