Talking Stunning Black 1987 3dr For Sale (Pics Now Added!)

Hello Everyone,
I'm not testing the water or guaging the interest in my car, I want to sell it so i can buy an Escort Cosworth!
  • Registered 1st July 1987
  • Almost standard car throughout
  • Genuine 61,000 miles
  • Full and comprehensive history
  • Huge service file
  • Many new parts
Vertually standard now with a full stainless steel exhaust system and K&N panel filter taking her up to a modest but sweet 228bhp, the car drives really really well, and dare i say it, almost like a new one!

M.O.T. till July next year and less than 500 miles completed on a new set of Dunlop rubber with less than 1500 since cam belt, brakes all round, recon injectors and more.... Everything works as it should and the car wants for nothing!

The interior is very clean, tidy, standard and original.

I have owned this car since July 2007 and If I hadn't driven a mates Escos a few weeks ago for the first time, this car would not be going anywhere! However, i have fallen in love with the drive of the Escort and now look forward to owning one.

The boys at www.tremonagarage.com in Southampton have looked after and know the car very well and are more than happy for me to meet any prospective buyer at the garage in order to view the car on a ramp etc.

Yes I would love to save alot of agony by P/X or swapping for an Escort Cosworth, but at the same time if someone were to make me an oiro £15,000 then you can drive it away and i'll look for an escort in my own time.

Thanks for looking,
Lee.

P.S. Having a mare uploading pics! Please email if intrested and I'll forward on some pics.

Hey Dude,
Yeah it was me at Silverstone and thanks, it is a lovely lovely car but I've fallen for the Escort now, doh! I really drive my cars but with respect too and just found in that short space of time driving the Escos I seemed to be at one with it. Sounds a bit daft I know, but hey ho, maybe the 4x4 just suits my style of driving better!

What do others think of me swapping from a 3dr to an Escos?
I don't want to regret it!
Thanks all for your comments so far, pics up soon with a little help from LUCA I hope!

YOU are a nutter, IMHO you will regret swapping the 3door.

Have you driven an escos yet, and I mean a proper drive, not a 5 min fancy as you will fall in love with it. But a proper drive and you will see the 3 door wins the vote every time.

Get some pics of the engine and underside, may help with the sale.

Lee i dont think you can compare your escos experience with every other escos out there! ive had both 3 door & escos i loved my escos more than my 3 door. Each to their own. If its the right escos you wont regret selling the 3 door for one thats what i think.

Talking Thanks for your opinions.

I really appreciate your thoughts guys. I am really worried about getting a duff Escos especially as my 3dr is such a nice one and drives lovely. But i really do think the Escort suits my driving better..............Wish I could have both!

HELP!!! I don't know what to do now

Well each to their own as they say.

Dont get me wrong I loved my escort, apart from the headgasket change which was a pain but no big deal. I coudlnt fault the car.

Just my opinion is 3door is better value for money

Id say youd have to spend 18k on an escos to get a "similar" condition 3door for half the money.

For me the biggest problem was getting my head around the fact I was basically driving a £15k escort that was 17 years old.

Looking at it relativly in comparison it just seemed a lot of money for not much car.

You biggest issue is going to be the change in feel between Rwd and 4wd.

Like I said, have you driven one enthuiastically, its the only way to be sure.

Talking Mmmm!

I'm with you yeah, I can defo see your point. This is why I won't take silly money for the 3dr, thay are fantanstic value and now an absolute icon too, which is why i face such a dilema about the change.

I totally agree about spending 18k on an Escort aswell to get the same value car. I did drive this Escos quickly though, it was a 95 (M) big turbo running approx 300bhp on 18's with mid range suspension mods and is 70bhp more than mine but to be fair it did'nt feel a whole lot quicker, however it did drive through the bends better and quicker than the 3dr i felt.

My car pulls and pulls like a bloody train, but i felt that i could drive the escort a lot quicker out on the open twisty roads.......

I almost wish i had'nt driven it now! See the decision I'm faced with!!!

oh yeh esc Cossie was a dream on the B roads, like it was on rails round the corners, and if it started to slide then all you do is put more power down and it would go round.

The thing with the 4x4 in the escos is it does give you that extra "stability" and sence of control. but you have to also be aware It can give you a false sence of security.

With the 3door there is always in the back of the mind "im waiting for the back end to bite" so you tent to take less risks. With the 4x4 cos I did find with mine I drove faster and took more risks. Partly one of the reasons for selling it as id have ended up in a ditch most probably. If it had have been a 3door I dont think id be nearly as tempted to drive like a nuttre and actually respect the car more if that makes sence.

Anyway enough hijacking a forsale thread

Good luck with the sale, and as said get some pics up of the important/moving bits. a good engine shot could sell the car!!

Lee slap yourself.......and again......and again! keep the 3dr you are a rwd man!! mk1 or 2 escort with a yb is your style. An escort cossie is so not you.. especially a 4wd 1. I personally feel that the 4x4's are far more unpredictable having owned 2wd saphs the 3dr a 4x4 saph and the escos. Hence i'm rwd'ing my escos. You pile into a corner and the 4x4 will understeer than when it wants oversteer then understeer. whereas a 2wd will just turn and you know exactly when and where its going to oversteer then you can just keep your foot in and drive it. none of this guessing what its going to do lark.

Cheers Danny,
Your so so right in so many ways. I am totally a rear wheel drive man, it's just when i drove Brendans I was pretty quick in it up the A32 and just loved the way it nailed the bends, do ya catch my drift! I suppose with all you have had, and you drive a similar style to me, you should know and i should take your advice! Doh! What the F... should I do dude.............I've fallen quite alot for the escort! How lucky or maybe not am i to even have this choice!

wait until mine is done as it will be rwd and and take it for a proper abusive drive and see what you think, maybe a rwd escos is you. I'm thinking i may not like it myself yet and end up going for a rwd saph again or a nice 3dr. The choice is yours mate BUT you are a driver and into the heritage so to speak. Just don't think its you.

Talking I see your all your points of view!

Daz, i thought about all that with the 3dr and who know maybe I still will play with it a little but it is one of cars you either have to spend lots and lots or leave it standard.

Rob, thanks for your comments, the boys at Tremona are superb and do everything to such a high standard.

I see your point Danny and the more and more I think about old skool stuff the more i wonder what to do....I look forward to a drive in the rear wheel escos and appreciate your offer of that and your advice.
Looks like a may be keeping her yet anyway, i've had no calls so far!!!

Default Money to tight to mention!!!

No intrest as yet!

Was at Rally Day on Sat and had a good look at some lovely Escos's, very nice indeed.

Had the 3dr running a little funny last week. For some reason she was intermitant on 3 & 4 cyclinders so now having all new injector wiring loom fitted! Apparantly it's a common problem where the wiring is so old now. Another bonus for the new owner!

Guys, with respect, None of you have seen the car or know the full extent of its build etc so how can you say it's over priced? Like any car, it's only worth what someone will pay once they've seen it and like i said offers in the region of.......

None of it was said to be nasty. Was maybe just a reason why you aint had no bites yet mate.

I have actually seen the car when the previous owner had it from the North East and know its a good car.

Its going on whats about on the market and has been, there has been one just gone in scotland with 44,000 miles in concourse condition for 14k, there is a lad on here bought one with 33,000 miles for 12k in near concourse condition, both are stunning cars.

Personally i think for 15k or around that its gonna have to be mega low mileage, and in concourse condition.Or straight out the box standard again with really low miles. Dont think it matters how much time and money goes into a car, realistically dont think your ever gonna get it back.

Good luck with the sale anyway

I agree, but time will tell. If that's what you want for it and you don't mind if it doesn't sell then sound mate.

Thanks alot, I appreciate your reply guys and see your points of view and know it was'nt nasty.

I just get a bit defensive like other people over whats right and wrong when selling cars. It's a pretty stressful time if your a genuine person trying to do the right thing. Theres so much rubbish out there, of which i have been a victim in the past and have seen some cars go for silly money! Yes mine is ambitious, but feel it's worth it. Just trying to protect my investment so I can treat myself to a lovely escos that is also a good sound car. Thanks again, Lee.

If it is that good you might be better just hanging onto it and saving yourself grief mate, you might end up with an inferior car that causes you more grief, been there and done that myself in the past. Anyway, whatever you decide to do good luck and I'll shut up now.
