New to this... had a few questions...
Hi all, hows it going? I joined this forum because I had a few questions, and I would like to see what kind of projects everyone has. That being said, I realise I own a mitsubishi, but for awhile I got crazy about Merkurs because I bought one from my supposed friend. I never got to drive it because my money was squandered on BS and it never got put together. And also through a series of very messed up events, I'm sad to say that I had to chalk it as a wasted investment. Anywho, one day several weeks ago, I was walking the scrapyard to help my friend get parts for his car. I was in the Ford section and I noticed this car sticking out like a sore thumb. It was red, had a short wheelbase, and for some reason called out to me. I paced the scrapyard a few times and found myself back looking at the car. It was an early Ford Escort. For weeks now, I have been contemplating the feasability of finding one and converting it to rear wheel drive so I can make a 2.3L turbo swap. To understand why I would do this I feel you need an Idea of my style. My style is to take something that is unique (they are in these parts) and build it up so that when I drive it somewhere, people go cross eyed and can only say "WTF!?". Please understand that I'm not a Ford man, or A Chevy Man, or even a Dodge Man. To me, everyone has something great to offer and in this case its Ford. Here are my questions, any help or insight is appreciated: 1) How feasable is this? 2) What would I need to complete said project (special parts, custom fab, etc.) 3) What would be a realistic time scale for this if I could work on it an average of 5 hours a day? I know how to weld, cut, use a lathe, but this would be my first conversion if I can do it in a reasonable amount of time and I can keep the cost at a cieling below $2000, maybe $3000
Hi mate. TBH not many people here will be able to answer your question as its prodomentaly a UK site. So experience with US Engines and versions of car will be very limited.
I suggest you go to www.merkursport.com and ask on there, as im sure you will get more help on the conversion your thinking of doing.
