Default price of funerals these days !!!

what a fucking rip off this is and a fucking scam to prey on people who are distressed

my brother in laws father died 2 weeks ago from cancer,,,,, now heres a list of the prices for a "cheap" funeral

we had to get 2 doctors to sign the death certificate,,,,, 65 quid each,,,,, plus 15 quid for the certificate !!!!,,,,,,, and he died in hospital and the doctors didnt even confirm him as actually dead

the cheep coffin cost 700 quid,,,,,, that was burned !!!!

we was charged for the drive from the hospital to the directors, then to somewhere else, then to the crematoriam

the bill for the funeral arragements came to just under 3k and the total bill just under 4k

what a fucking rip off considering,,,,,, well what actually happens overall

also i was told you cant arrange to sort something seperate and it has to go though a funeral directors as tbh id like to arrange my own funeral so my family dont do the wrong thing and waste money on getting pointless shite in memory of my honor,,,,,, infact id rather they just left me in the hospital and refused to pay for the death certificates and see what happens

its a morbid post i know but ive been to alot of funerals lately and never asked about the costs,,,,, but now it seems theres alot of " lets see what we can get away with" charges

doctors are paied by the NHS,,,,, which we pay into for our treatments over our lives and some of us dont get the full benifits as we aint that ill,,,,,, why cant the signatures be free as when you are born you dont pay to register the birth ????

Ł1500 is a cheap funeral

us indian spend grands giving our loved ones a decent send off, not just the cost of the certification but the general costs such as coaches to ferry peeps to and from the crematorium and the temple costs etc

i suppose it's just a personal thing but if you want to sort your own arrangements out then fine, everyone does things differently

just be happy that someone will be sheding a tear over your passing when it eventually happens

It can be done a lot cheaper.

My will stipulates the instructions for my funeral which include a humanist service (so no cash to a church that I don't believe in), a cardboard coffin and a meadowland grave (no headstone, just a tree or a bush).

The money saved is going behind the bar so everyone who turns up can have a party instead of a miserable day out!

Ive dug a few graves in the past and i didnt get my fair share of the 4k, and i worked harder than anyone.

What can you do tho mate?

Its like all things where you have to have it

Insurance and petrol for example, we all need it so they can charge what the fuck they like pretty much.

Ive been to 2 funerals in the last month, not nice.

Ginge....totally agree with you!

You don't pay for someone to say your alive and living so really why the fuck do we need to pay for a peice of paper saying your no longer with us!! You would think that as this obviously happens to everyone and not every single person can afford a decent funeral that it wouldn't be so expensive! Really pisses me off!

It's REALLY obvious to everyone when you are alive.

It's not so obvious when you are dead.

The 2 doctor rule was brought in a long time ago when some doctors decided to pronounce people dead just to get body parts.

why has the family members ggot to pay for the signature, the person who died paied hes taxes and ni payments,,,,, the doctor is being paied by the same NI and tax that the person had paied there lives

the 700 quid for a wooden coffin thats,,, very basic is another thing too considering you can buy a table or a few wardrobes for less than that

If IKEA did coffins you'd be lucky to make it out of funeral parlour.

isnt there places now where you can get a cheap cardboard coffin for cremation? what if you dont have the money or refuse to pay the extra fees? will they dispose of the body in a landfill site? when im dead im dead so what happens doesnt matter. i wouldnt expect any of my kids to be paying thousands just so i can have a burial and headstone that no one will visit within a couple of years anyway.

my missus mums headstone come to 12k and the funeral come to over 10k,, this was paid for out of the life insurance left for her kids and as a result my missus got under 10k,,,,,, they just spent what ever they could on the funeral and took what ever was left,,, even my missus years later said it wasnt a great idea but at the time it seemed the right thing to do

id rather get wrapped in a old carpet and burned tbh or dumped in a landfill so i agree with you

Local Authority will pay for the costs of a basic funeral if there is no money in the deceased estate.

Yep. It's not their money till your affairs are sorted including debts, taxman, and your funeral. The executor is in charge of disbursing the cash and can get into bother if he hands over money without settling things first.

larger one was paied for, smaller was free and you didnt have to pay extra for a signature like you do on death certificates..... 65 quid for pen inkand you need 2 of them plus 15 quid for the paper its written on.,,,,, thats 145 quid just to say " hes dead"

I honestly can't remember the ins and outs of getting doctors to sign death certificates, sure I never had to pay for that though...... the arrangements for my mum's funeral in 2003 were just short of Ł1500 for a cremation.... so in 6 years its doubled.....

Don't forget that you could be an organ donor (recommended) which would help many other people and maybe reduce the size of the box you will need!

Or you could leave your body to science. These doctors at Ł65 a time need to practice on the dead for part of their 7 years of training before they are safe to let loose on the living! It also helps them to recognise a dead person when asked to certify death.

Or you could get plastinated by Dr Gunter van HagenDaz.

and you think coffins are well built mate! they arent, they shouldnt be able to charge the amount they do for them as i know exactly what goes in a coffin and how they are done.

biggest thing is to make sure a crem coffin has no metal in or on it!

i regret greatly not beeing older when my father passed away as he had been a funeral director and also did wedding cars which were sold off when he passed away ( i was 13 at the time) had i of been older it would not have bothered me to do that on top of college with my mother as everything was there. we oftern talk about it saying we wish we had had hindsight at the time and not felt the need to sell everything off!

although i must say when we were clearing out stuff from my nan's to open a workshop and find an old coffin at that ages was very creepy and slightly disturbing at the time dont know why as i knew there was no one in it and nothing that would hurt me but just felt odd.

When its your Mum you pay to have a decent send-off. Mine died last year & it was around 4k for a basic but respectful funeral.

rod i TOTALLY hear about good send off and celebrate there lives ect,, its the spending on the things you dont see,,,,, the stupid costs for driving the corpse about to places, the signing the doctors note is the one that REALLY fucks me off

respect dont mean spend all your money to people you wont ever see again,,, infact im sure most of you personally would rather the money went to someone in the family close or if they didnt need it then to a friend or family member who did need the money rather than spend 3k to a funeral directors

paying for guests and there travel i agree with but i dont think spending 800 quid on luxury cars is a good idea either
