Di's car, C515DYT ( replated from original registration no C462FHK ) is one of only FIVE black series 1 escort rs turbos produced by ford motor company. It was specialy made to order for HRH Princess of Wales who used the car between 23 aug 1985 and 31 may 1988. Garrys, which is the one on ebay, came black from Ford Motor Co, Brentwood, Essex in 1986 thought to be one of a select few re-painted in black by Ford While they were the registered owners.

I can help a bit, but it wouldn't take much to find the relevant info if you knew where to look
This car was bought by the 2nd owner direct from Ford (Ford being the first owner) complete in black with unpainted 16i 5-bar front grill and unpainted bumper end caps.
The origins and early history behind the colour are unknown but this car has now been fully restored using excellent condition parts to a very high degree.
Anyone at Ford Fair yesterday would have seen the car on the Fast Ford S1 25th Anniversary stand.
