Hi Marco,
I know exactly what your saying mate, Ive been trading in this industry for over ten years and know most of the people you refer to as well. However, the fact remains that this site must retain some firm trading rules to ensure that folk cannot just pop on here and rip people off with no real way to trace them.

Without trading rules this place would become a free for all. Personally I like you and class you as a mate and fully understand that you don't do this to trade you actually do this to help peeps and make a few beer tokens along the way, but how can we professionally differentiate between you and a used car salesman popping on here and selling welded together sheds without paying? We cant, so unfortunately its one rule covers all. However, we are looking at relaxing some aspects of the ruling a little but its getting lost in quite a lot of red coloured tape.

Marco, serious question, for Ł35 a month, why don't you just trade legitimately on here? With your contacts you should recoup that for fun mate!

Marco only one of your posts was removed from the thread it received a number of complaints re advertising sumps, other members are NOT allowed to advertise them and have been warned in the past, so fairs fair the same rules must apply to us all

hi stu

honestly mate i understand where you and the traders are coming from.

this is on my kids life........, i dont make or even take a penny of the people

thats have a sump or a gearbox of me .... all i do is put them in the right direction for good parts

as for the putting prices up on tread ....i didn't know about that im wrong for doing that , i know now wont happen again

the price what i did put up thats what the guy charges for the sump ....no McGuinness tax

i know you dont belive me Stu but thats the truth if you was to ask anyone on here thats has dealt with me you find out

I hope they come forward on this tread to prove that

If you are genuinely helping people out with no profit to yourself mate, then I reckon you should ask for voluntary donations towards traders fees and im sure you will raise the cash then everyone is happy, maybe Stu could even do you a reduced rate deal as its genuinely a service you are providing with the slicks etc

Ive known Marco for a good few years as he's an active member of our local RSOC group. He does indeed make NO money out of helping folks, (personally i think he could do well out of it but he aint like that), but conversley i can see the points raised by the supposed trader aspect on here as well.

Its a shame to see him so fed up with the whole lot TBH..

Stu, is someone ok to start a post fundraising on Marco's behalf to see if people will chuck a few quid in towards getting him some sort of trading charity status?

To be fair, Marco has helped me out LOADS, and it probably costs him money to help me ... fair play to the guy who invites me round his house at 9pm, and has my Bilsteins in component parts scattered across his kitchen floor and is still there at 1am to get them perfect....

It is a shame that these sort of gestures get lost when it all becomes about money ... Totally genuine guy who does it for the love of the RS Cosworth marque, and helped me out as a total stranger from the word go ... Just hope I can repay the help someday

Marco has also helped me out with a few parts, and has fetched and carried them for me without ever asking for a penny, so it's a bit harsh to brand him as a trader!

Stuart you know my views on people like Marco, they are what forums are about and all forums’ need members like him
My question to you is this, in your reply you seem to be justifying the trader fee as there is some sort of guarantee members will not get ripped off by businesses that pay the fee and are allowed to sell parts / cars.
How do you do this
Or are you just hoping that because they have paid the money they will not rip any one off or else you will kick them of the forum.

I understand Marco and I know from my past experience with you that your one of the few remaining true enthusiasts in the scene who will truly go a long way out of your way to help people and I am all for that mate. Everyone knows your a diamond. The problem is the way you go about it... as an example:

If someone asks for, lets say a sump. Your common reply will be:

I can do that mate, price is Ł200.

And you will then allegedly help the chap by getting it from XYZ and passing it on to the chap at cost price or cost plus a pint.

So its almost impossible for me to explain to a trader why you don't just say:

I would use XYZ. They charge Ł200. call 01234 56789
its impossible to explain to a trader that your not trading for free on here when he is paying hundreds of ŁŁs. I hope you can understand that mate.

i know you dont belive me Stu
Your wrong actually mate, I do believe you. The annoying thing is, I think if you applied yourself to it a little better you could make a good few quid supplying things at a profit as a trader on here as a trader mate.

[quote=PAUL V;4301629]

Agreed.

There are no guarantees mate but to become an official trader we need name, address, telephone numbers, fax numbers, e-mail addresses etc. A gold member can pay by paypal pretty much anonymously. Also a trader has to buy a minimum of 6 months as your initial payment, which stops a lot of fly by night sales as he has to pay a lump up front.

There will always be arguments for and against the rules on this topic and there can never be a true winner because we need to segregate forum privileges for those whom wish to trade commercially.

People usual argument with me is they think they are not trading and I think they are. My only advice in that instance is if you are not sure if you are classed as a trader under UK law, please call the inland revenue helpline and explain your activities to them. they are usually extremely helpful.

Thanks for your Reply Stu,

So you hope that because they are paying 6 months up front they will act in a professional business manner

<OTBH i don’t think there is much you can do to stop any trader ripping anyone off, I do think that to trade on here you must have a valid VAT number as this would 100% make sure they are a commercial business and not some fly by night. <O></O>

No. I am telling you from 6 years experience that most traders who try to sign up as a trader and scam members with a large grouop buy or similar fast one couldnt afford to pay 6 months up front and would not give me so many personal details before doing so. This isnt a hunch, its a fact learned from running these sites for years.

<O

No, all we can do is deter teh opportunist. Pretty much the same as having a car alarm, it only deters opportunists.

There are plenty of legitimate non vat registered traders around mate.

Marco doesnt make a penny. Got me my diff cheap.

Stu: Marco has been around long enough for you to relax the rules for him. Its not as if he has suddenly appeared on the scene is it mate. So yes you could easily tell any other trader that Marco is doing it for free. Its called trust between friends. The minute you find out Marco is making a single penny then you can swoop on him but there will be enough people on here prepared to lay their cosworth on it, that Marco does things for the good of others and not a money making exercise.

Completely poitnless me typing that out as no one will take any notice.

Anyway Marco mate. We all have a PM button that we can click on to contact you

Thats not really not making a penny TBH mate, thats making 50 quid.
Its a tip not a contracted amount, but its still "earnings" at the end of the day.

I forgot passionflawed.com is now a money making exercise NOT the enthusiasts site Stu started it up as. Shame really. Oh well just have to PM people like Marco. We all know who he is and we can all contact him regardless of the silly rules in place on here.

i dont understand the problem people have with making money. when it was only 1 man and his dog it was a small enthusiasts site.now its to big for that. it needs to finance itself and make profit for those investing time and effort.
im sure manu ,chelsea etc didnt start up with the idea of being global money makers in mind. just a few enthusiasts kicking a ball about on a saturday afternoon....

I have to agree that Marco provides a LOT of good sound info to people for free..like contacts for sumps etc... I got my sump through Marcos contact and it's turned out absolutely amazingly with Marco helping me out taking me there to see him, introducing etc...

Helped me out whenever I've needed anything too!

Never cost me a penny for Marco to help me out; just return good deeds with anything he might need from me in the future.

Cheers
Dan

P.S. Marco I couldn't find the driveshaft socket, you must have had it back mate. I thought you had it back but I did look and it's not ere matey.
