Im having the same problem, Ive tested head gasket all good, flushed hoses and traced it down to my radiator which is in bad condition. The fins are damaged an can see where its been patched up over the years.
So thats going for a recore, hopefully should sort out my problem.

Also its worth testing your thermostat.

thanks matey, ive tested the head gasket and was good. so i pressure tested the cooling system and found a leak, fixed that but it does get hot quickly but does cool down in the end. so wound it be good to replace the rad and thermostat anyway thanks chris. ps i think ive seen your car on pistonheads?

Test your thermostat as its easy to replace if its not opening or closing, also worth checking the condition of your rad.

Yes it was on Piston heads but decided to do some more bits to the car and new wheels, I will be selling in October as I will ne a new daily car I can use more.

rst rads are around Ł160 mark from what i have found. im about to fit a xr2i rad, its longer but not as deep as a rs one. going to give it a try see how it goes as xr2i ones and sooo much cheaper i got mine for under Ł60 for a new one ( know the guy tho behind the counter) but they are around that much.
i just need to get a xr2i bottom rad hose as the the bottom rad hose outlet on rad is at 90degrees and not 45 like the rs one.

will let you know how it goes, soon as iv fitted it and given it a propper test.
