RST: Hot under the collar...
Guys,
I'm posting on behalf of a mate of mine who's RST is a little bit poorly at the moment. He doesnt have t'internet access.
The cars a Series 2, H Reg with just over 100k on the clock. Its had the actuator changed - I think its 31 PSi, by Power Engineering, and a Pace intercooler fitted. Its also running an aftermarket foam cone filter.
Thing is - it overheats an aweful lot, he's gone through about 4 head gaskets over the last few months. He'll go for a drive, and after only a couple of minutes of heavy right foot, the header tank will start to boil over.
I'm not Ford guy myself, hence the post here. I'm not expecting a definitive answer, just wondering where you guys thought it might be a good idea to start looking to solve this?

Has he had the head/block checked for distortion? Everytime the head is removed it will distort due to the thermal stress thats built up when it is bolted to the block. Stuck thermostat? Blockage in the cooling system? What gasket is he using? Correct torque settings? Bolt holes in block cleaned out before inserting bolts?
Is the gasket going in the same place everytime?
I persume you mean it's a -31 actuator?

Not suprised he is going thru head gaskets!
u mean -31 actuator? As Moonie says really, check all these factors, could be as little as a fooked thermostat, or as much as a cracked head/block. I would also suggest trying another header tank on the car also, as these can crack over time (likely his is now if it has expanded a few times and boiled over)
Also, is the radiator fan coming in properly? so also check the fan switch, I assume it is the old style pace cooler, (the one that sits to one side) so the fan is on the rad still?
Also, if none of the above works try another rad if you can....
31PSI with a PACE cooler (which aint much better than std if at all) their lies yer problem
Rad in good nick? water pump workin ok? where does the h/gasket go? firing rings or what? always same one or diff?
