Found me a YB 205 block head cams aoil water pump manifolds and 4x4 sump in my garage clearout what sort of money would I be looking at putting it together to around say 400bhp? much cost difference to aim for 500bhp+? (turbo+mapping excluded)

if your after that power level i,d say your better off with the 200 block (4x4) for starters.
The 205 can produce 500hp but it prob or definately best to change ur block. As for costs it could be a vast difference depending on parts used .Its a bit of a how bigs your wallet question imo
