AS IN TITLE,

juddery etc etc.
is it really that bad,

because i brought AP CLUTCH from BURTON POWER. told them what im running, ESCORT RS S2 202 torque and he gave me

STANDARD CLUTCH COVER £68 inc vat
CLUTCH PLATE (PADDLE) £168 inc vat
CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING £20 inc vat
got new adjustable pedal & new quadrant aswell

FIRST THING I SAID TO HIM WAS I WANT MY CLUTCH TO BE DRIVEABLE, "IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN" AND HE SAID "YES IT WILL DEFINATLY BE OK"

my clutch is in middle of getting fitted today with gearbox by a local mechanic engineering place who does race cars etc and he rang me and advised me that "DRIVING WILL BE VERY JUDDERY ETC ETC ETC" because oviously being a racing plate


NOW IM FUCKING CONFUSED. BECAUSE BURTON POWER SAID DRIVEABILITY WILL BE FINE

Yea you will still have juddery there mate i got helix with std cover plate, got a nice biting point and peddle but juddery will be there, i hate it tbh

 

mine took a little getting use to but was fine

didnt really bother me at all

 

Ap paddle will be juddery on pull off and sometimes make a noise when you come down through the box where it grabs the flywheel so hard, get used to it though and they're fine pulling off as long as you give it a bit of revs. On the other hand, i've now got one of Ap's new high torque clutches and being an organic plate a lot nicer drive and has handled the current power fiine so far (245nhp/230ft pounds torque).

 

so just will have to get used to it yeh.

so is biting point ok, like when on hills etc.

coz on my other clutch the biting point was the fucking nuts

 

the high torque ap clutch is great at that sort of power but there not a new a thing!! been out for over 3 years now

 

you wont be sitting there riding the clutch thats for sure , you will need it on the hand brake then get to where the bit is then give it some revs and lift up the clutch and pull off

 

if its a 4 paddle takes some getting used to,have to give it bit more revs, and if in traffic give some space

 

but i bet when u pull away with loads of revs its the nuts

 

Lol yeah you're right...it's probably been in my car for nigh on 3 years now just always see it it advertised as 'new' lol.! Going for more power now but to be honest don't know what's gonna be any better?! Any ideas, for a bc box?

 

awesome for launching really does grab,gives that race car feel,not really for most people cause it can be harsh

 

i dont find ap paddle clutches etc too bad.tho round about town it aint so good but i never really done much in town driving.

 

To be honest mate, they have sold u a product unfit for the purpose - a paddle is not a driveable road clutch by an standard.

 

I would have to diasgree there. I had the AP paddle and a standard Ford cover plate in my car for many years and had no drivability problems what so ever. Several other people also drove my car and also had no issues with the clutch.

 

I use the AP CP2000-35 clutch,its the highest torque rating clutch AP have for the RST.I love it for 1 reason,it don't slip!!!!But cause it don't slip it makes it a very brutal engaging clutch,fine on track,bit a nightmare on the road.It needs medium revs off the line,is juddery at low revs,and needs a bit of slip too.But too be fair,a clutch can't handle big power/torque and be easy to drive around town.Its down to the owner,but I would prefer no slipping as opposed to a gentle clutch.But as my car is mainly only used on track I think its a great clutch,has taken all the trackday abuse so far!! Because you thought it was ok, doesn't mean it's a good road clutch. Why do Manufacturers not fit them as std? THe OP specified a road clutch, this is not what he got.

I've never understood this 4 paddle clutch plate with a standard pressure cover? Surley the standard cover wouldn't apply enough pressure to the clutch? The whole point of having a 4 paddle plate and a heavier pressure cover is to apply more force/friction? Wouldn't the order be Standard for sort of 150BHP, AP Organic upto 200BHP and 4 Paddle for anything above?

I've had paddle clutches on my Escort and Fiesta turbos and you just get used to it. If you want to nearly double the power and tourque and still use it everyday as a road car you have to compromise I guess.

 

not when ap rate the organic clut at 230ftlbs and you could easy add 30% onto that with no probs. so burton sold the lad wrong clutch.

 

Yeah I understand that. I meant why would Burton would sell him a 4 paddle clutch with a standard pressure plate when an Organic would do the job.

 

Well I hope they didn't sell me wrong things, if they did then that's a fucking liberty, cunts. I rang them told them my power and said that I dont want clutch to feel stiff or anything and I wanted also for it to be fine on everyday use

 

its my understanding that the set up they sold the lad is very good with big power and is what the norris boys run in there rst's but at his power level the organic is one to have and they of all people should of new that.

how long to run it in or no need to run it in with a paddle plate??????

 

it's a good setup, MK used to run that setup in his track xr2.
i've run organic etc and they're good till you turn boost up and that's that then.
i've now gone for a complete ap paddle setup and their pressure plate, it'll be harsh on setting off for sure, but will hold the power nicely.
what Burton ahve done is given a compromise and gone with the paddle drive plate, but gone for the softer pressure plate, so it'll help slip the clutch a little more when you need it.

 

Slipping a paddle plate is never a good thing IMO.
