s2 smoking and no boost
Oright ive just put my s2 back together as i just had the turbo reconditioned, it started up fine idles ok but after about 2 mins of it running, a little bit of blue smoke seemed to be coming out of the exhaust which i just thought could be old oil in the exhaust or something. I then drove it and all seemd fine for bout 5 mins was still smoking a little but not much ,then i went to boot it and it was like there was no power at all the turbo was trying to boost but a snail like pace i looked behind me after letting of the throttle and there was the biggest cloud of smoke ive ever seen. Im a bit confused and annoyed now last month i replaced the valve stem oil seals, i have good compression so piston rings must be ok. so its only the turbo that can be smoking. I had a quick look at the turbo before and could see a bit of oil on the metal oil return pipe bolt and also the actuator rod had a tipex mark on it and the end looks like it has been loosend of quite a bit. Started to piss it down so had to leave it for now. Anybody had this problem before
there is sometimes a little over run smoke that sometimes sits at the bottem of the turbo, normaly a small little bit, they do smoke a little all old rsts have a little bit now and again, but no boost = what above said, weak actuator, to test this remove the bar under the turbo and see if you can pull it out and push it back in. if so then your actuator is fooked! lol
I will check the actuator when it stops raining but i dont think its that as i it was fine before i sent the turbo of to be recond , it looks like it been loosend of a bit so il check that but i dont get why there was so much smoke.
Just taken the top intercooler hose of and oil litterally drained out of the crossover pipe
. Also when i was reffiting turbo i couldent get my original rubber oil return pipe to reach the block it was almost an inch to short but it did fit before, and the metal oil retun pipe was pressed right against the actuator rod is this normal, im starting to think there maybe a possibility that its not been put back together properly
gonna speak to the lad who did it tommorow

turbos need to be re-built to 100%... The turbo fan needs to be balanced right otherwise there will be play in the shaft, check that aswell, there is normaly a Mill of play up and down within the shaft but in and out shouldnt.. sounds like someone rebuilt it to a crap standard, how much did you pay? and was it a side job? i wouldnt ever take it somewhere unless its a proper company, i took mine to turbo Tec i nottingham.
only use reputable turbo builders
another thing did u prime the turbo before starting up as u could have anything from 30secs-1 min with no oil circualting the turbo if not primed first

Was a lad that one of my mates recomended as he does them as a side job. I was going to take it to get a professional recon but for some reason made the stupid decision to take it to him
. Think ive learnt my lesson now just gonna buy a new turbo sick of messing with second hand bits and having to get them recond all the time. Will get my mate get me his number and se what he says.
