Luke, I run one of these on both mine and Lee's YB Westys with 044 pumps/ECU, Lights etc etc. No problems and widely used in the kit car race world.
Mine has been on the car for 2 years now and works fine mate. Lees about 6 months which is more like 10 years abuse and is perfect. You wont have any problems.
They are very versatile in that you can mount them in different positions and they are nice and small. Also wont leak everywhere should the worst happen.
I buy them from Knight Batteries which is cheaper than that eBay guy. £90 delivered so you save £7.50 too. You will need to buy a pair of the round post adapters for that battery too. They also sell all the mounting brackets too. Hope that helps.
Battery
Square Terminal Adapters
Round Post Adapters
Mounting Brackets

The pc545 seems a good choice, what do you run on yours Andrew?
The PC545 is what we use and fine.
90 notes well spent as Will has the terminals too!
What kinda problems Mark. Can you explain? I dont understand how they differ really from a normal battery in terms of performance? I like Andrew says, once running its the alternator doing the work?

Last what? The test of time?
Well I am only 2 and a half years into ownership and use so cant comment beyond that. I've never heard that being a problem though in the Kit Car world where they are used lots.
Looks like Lukes bought one now so maybe we can drag this thread up in a few years time for an update!

I bought a varley for my mk1 escort, the battery stood for 2 years untill i fitted it to the finshed car, charged it up fitted it and it was superb started the car every time, never had to touch it
Got a Varley in my Mk1 as well and one of the other lads has one in his Mk2 with no problem - in fact my "big old normal battery" went dead in the XR so I used my Varley in that for the Croft weekend - nee bother
The only issue is that if the alternator does fail you won't be able to run the ancilliaries for long, and if it's at night you won't get very far which is why some of the rally boys don't use them - a normal battery might be the difference of getting to the end of the stage - so, you takes your choice
