Default any vag techs on?

got a v5 passat syncro in which has just decided to overheat on us-looks like its pressurised the system and then spat its water past the pressure cap.

is there any common probs with them-water pumps, thermostats, head gaskets etc?

thanks in advance

The water pumps are prone for cracking so the spindle of the pump spins but the impeller doesn't causing the overheating you describe.

you can do them insitu, but for how long it takes to get the bumper off its not worth it, just check that the passat doesnt use an auxillery pump to the n/s of the engine bay for the water pump, some did.

not full front just undo the bumper and top bolts the front panel will lean forward on the front engine mount and give you enough room
