Default 2.0 Zakspeed RS1600 @ Nurburgring

Just to put some context on the performance of our everyday cars against (some of) our heros

New FRS @ Nurburgring = about 8.20, altho I hear they are preparing one for the hatch record soon @ 8.17

In 1974, the alloy blocked 2.0 BDA powered Zakspeed Escort Mk1 we all LOVE was 275+bhp and in race trim this did 8.51

Which 11 years earlier was about the same time F1 cars were doing!!!!

That is all

Megane is a lightweight car with no rear bench, no options ( like stereo ) and road legal slicks.....FRS is on treaded tyres with LOADS of kit in it

My point was the comparison between Hero status racecar and a 2009 everyday car

Good point well made. On similar lines, would anyone have lap times of uk circuits from "back in the day" when the RS500 was dominating? And compare it to todays BTCC lap times?

I'm pretty sure the modern cars are quicker, it's been posted on here....I would say a lot of the time differential is down to tyre technology alone though. Still interesting nevertheless
