Default Balanced botton end and swapping flywheels

right I need to fit a new clutch to my sapph and get the flywheel re-faced and I was thinking of using my spare as it will take 2 days to get the one on the car re-faced
so is it going to make any real difference?

I always thought all that balancing did was make the engine rev nicer, And you could rev higher without it rattling itself to bits.

Most people just consider it balanced if the clutch and flywheel are balanced too.

In my opinion it wouldnt make much difference but im not a tuner, I know martin made a big deal of my clutch and flywheel not being balanced with my engine.

In a perfect world it's all balanced as one rotating mass.
Now back to the real world, of a clutch change or flywheel change upsetting things, it won't make a noticeable difference at all unless you are hitting some seriously higher rpm than normal, remembering ford customers never complained about ford's std balancing.
If you've a spare flywheel though why not think about lightening as well before putting in ?
My 2wd one went from 8.9KG to 6.6KG, lighten/skim for £50, 6.6KG with ring gear I thought pretty good.

Cheers what sort of difference would I see from having it lightened, better responce?

so I am better off getting the one thats in the car(the balanced one) now sorted, thats fine it just the car will be off the road an extra day or 2

It will rev a lot easier, more so in the lower gears, the only thing you have to watch is the fact you will have less inertia, so on a hill for example it will slow down quicker as you start up the hill, but not even worth worrying about, had lightened ones on all my cars and always better than std, did have one done a bit too light and with hairy cams it was a pain in the arse around town, but running 300 degree cams, on 48's, so to be expected, and still on shitty clockwork ignition!!
I would get your spare sorted, as the lightening will unbalance it anyway, and have to be rebalanced.

Just get the one on it done Matt, mark it up so you know what position it's in (centre pop a bolt hole or something)

Maybe use the time to hydraulic the clutch or something, paint the gearbox or whatever. (bufty fooker)

Or just arrange a day to take it in while you wait? Getting it done at Roe?
