Default what would you do?

basically i sold an item on ebay, the winner (also a member on here) pm's me saying it aint turned up (i posted it first class 13 days ago) so i gave him my number and asked him to call me

so, i tell him i'll chase it up at post office, ring him to tell him etc..

post office say 14 days till they can do ought, so i notify him of this, and he seems fine with it, so in theory 14 working days means a week today before they'll do anything.

an hour ago he calls me up saying i need to return his money or and i quote '' he'll do it the hard way''

i ask him to wait until what post office say, he is reluctant to understand that im not going to pay him back £200 when its not showed up or been found, and may still get delivered to him

well, im not a rip off merchant, im far from it, so im trying to keep the peace and ask him why he is being awkward regarding the situation. He claims not to be, so.... im putting this up before he puts a thread up slateing me..

M8 i have had stuff going missing before i refund as soon as i can but after the period that the post office say 14 working days etc then u claim and its all sorted ASAP.

So if i was you i would refund him soon as the post office say its officially lost, you will be out of pocket for a week or so before YOU get the money back from the post office

did you send it insured?

if not then unfortunatly std first class is only covered up to £30 anyway so if you did refund and then had to claim off reoyal mail you would only get £30 back anyways.

what postage service was offered in your listing? if it says std first class then you should really offer insurance at extra cost to the buyer, if its over 30 and it gets lost and they didnt pay the insurance then the problem is theirs not yours in that situation, but as said if ever i sell anythnig on ebay i always send it by courier.

Is that right? Your covered upto £30 for standard first class mail? I thought it was just recorded thats was covered upto about £35 and special delivery covered upto £500.

The problem here is wondering if the person 'has' actually received the goods and is just trying to pull a fast one. Not saying thats the case here of course, but from my experience with ebay its becoming more and more common.

Not sent recorded delivery? Wounder

Tell him 14 days or do one, BUT, be prepared to refund in full on day 14 and learn from a nice kick in the bollocks.

std post insurance is £35,you can then add enhanced insurance to what you need, no need for special delivery, Until the PO say its lost hold the monies Andy, then refund, can take up to 14 days to deliver.

Postal insurance is for the buyer to pay, if the buyer doesnt pay for, or ask for insurance then the seller doesnt pay the extra for the insurance, the buyer is taking the risk by not insuring the item, not the seller!

As you can prove you posted the item to the buyer, then as far as im concerned you have fulfilled your duty as the seller and anything more is the responsibility of royal mail or the buyer, so its either a refund from the royal mail or the buyer takes it on the chin and puts it down to experience.

when you sell any item you are selling THE ITEM , the postage service is a service you help with , if the buyer wishes to have the SELLER arrange for delivery they should ask for insurance etc

I always ask the buyer if they would like to pay extra to insure the item if the item is worth more than the std rate of cover , most say no to the extra £3 ,lol

Royal mail is a pain in the arse as they loose more than they deliver FACT , but once lost it isnt the SELLERS fault is it , he didnt loose it .

Wait for the royal mail to either find it or pay then refund because you can be sure if it does turn up on the buyers door after you have refunded him 75% of people wont send you it back
