Default frst engine loom into escort efi rx3i ** help needed **

hello all

im converting my 90 spec escort cab from EFI xr3i to rs turbo, ive used a fiesta turbo engine and ive also got ofab engine loom and ecu, ive finished installing the engine, box, turbo etc etc but im stuck on fitting the lm and i thought i would of just unpluged the xr3i loom and pluged the fiesta loom into the car loom but this is not the case,

does anyone know a way of doing this or a company in kent that would be able to do this for me??

any help would be great

If you use OFAC there's no need to change the loom at all.

XR3i EFi loom is all one piece like the MFi RS Turbo. If you go to www.rsbible.co.uk theres a comprehensive writeup of all the pins needed to change to run OFAB on an XR3i EFi loom under the EFi conversion section, there's no need to strip/replace the loom.

I'd just chuck an OFAC ECU in unless you have plans over 1 bar of boost.

If you use OFAC all pins are present and correct nothing to be changed.

You'll be missing a plug on your loom for the amal valve, but just bin the amal valve or replace it with a bleed valve if you're going to run extra boost.

If you had an OFAC ECU anyway this sounds like the more sensible option that OFAB.

hi, i have pretty much finished doing this conversion, i take it you are doing the EFI turbo? My final parts are going on saturday and hopefully fingers crossed car will run as i have fuel and a spark at the engine.

In the end i found it was easier changing all the loom, not only due to the fact that mine had major wiring issues, but it means you dont have to change any pins as long as you have the ofab map sensor and edis 4 module.

i have explained as much i as can below as i did bits of the wiring a bit different to how jano said to do it however the thread i used to get help was @ http://oddkiddcreations.co.uk/viewto...st=0&sk=t&sd=a jano knows what he is talking about and guided me through the process and cleared up some bits of confusion i had.

firstly,have you got the fiesta rs block or the escort turbo block? as i used the escort one and had the problem of drilling the hole for the crank position sensor.

The way i did the fuel pump relay was to find the wire going to the fuel pump which is black and red, thn wiring it up the same way as it says in this wiring diagram http://www.rsbible.co.uk/escort/diagram.jpg this means using 2 of the standard yellow ford relays.

RELAY 1:

87 = Pin 5 from the ofab loom and to pin 86 on the fuel pump relay (relay 2)
85 = Earth
86 = Ignition switch
30 = Direct to battery via a 30amp wire & fuse.

RELAY 2:

87= black and red wire to fuel pump/ inertia switch (as i have removed mine it goes direct to fuel pump)
85= pin 2 from ofab loom
86=wire from injection relay (relay 1)
30= direct to battery via 30 amp wire & fuse

the colours of the wires on the fiesta ofab loom are:
pin 1 - black
pin 2 - brown
pin 3 - green
pin 4 - brown
pin 5 - green & black
pin 6 - green & brown
pin 7 - red

and they need to go to the places below;

Pin 1: Ignition Live
Pin 2: Pin 22 (ECU) to the Fuel Pump Relay
Pin 3: Feed From DIS coil pack to the Rev counter
Pin 4: Pin 20 (ECU) Current return
Pin 5: Pins 57 & 37 (ECU) to the Fuel injection Relay
Pin 6: Oil Pressure
Pin 7: B+ (Constant Live)

pin 1 is the ignition live which is the black one on the ignition switch (i jus soldered it straight on the back of the switch along with the one for the fuel relays)

pin 3 of ofab goes to the positive on rev counter which you have cut about 5cm from the plug on the back of the dials and sloder a wire from pin 3 to the wire that has jus been cut.
you have to do the same for the oil pressure switch which is pin 6 on the ofab and goes to one of the wires on the other plug that goes on the back of the dials

pin 4 just goes straight to earth

pin 7 straight to positive.

hope that all this helps, if you have problems or get confused let me know or look through the thread on oddkiddcreations. if you still dont know what to do after that get in contact with jano.

Aaah, it'll most likely have a 1AFA. Then xrs_man's method is probably the best solution for you. Although OFAC ECU's arent that hard to come by.

No propblem tho dude
