Default House Buying ?

I am in the middle of buying a new house and in the contract it states that the property is freehold except the garage, you own the driveway and garden house but the garage is only freehold, can somebody please tell me why this is ?

Thanks

Is the garage attached to the house?

Plus I guess you mean the garage is lease hold?

Is the garage on land that once could have belonged to a neighbour? I presume you mean the garage is leasehold, and possibly they bought the land off a neighbour on some 100 year deal.... I'd ask whoever's doing your conveyancing - Or the Estate agents (make them actually do some work for the money they'll be making )

It is a new build estate so the developer owns all the land, the garage is not attached to the neighbours, and yes the garage is leasehold but everything else is freehold, l dont understand why

Do as Dan suggests and get your 'people' to make some enquiries

It might be the developer trying to secure long a long term income from all the garages on the site. Bit off putting in my opinion, all depends on how long the lease is for etc though I guess?

Well after calling the builder and asking them they said it was a mistake in the contract and it is actually freehold which is good, l thought it was very strange, so now they are mending the contracts
