Default canceling a phone contract and keeping same number on new contract - how?

right i read in another thread about asking for a pac code so that your new contract can take the number of the old contract phone, i am going to be giving my one month notice in on the 12th and was looking to take out a phone before the end of the month as i have seen an offfer that is a very good one on same tarif but with better phone and £10 cheaper each month still on orange aswell!

if i were to take the new contract out before the old one ends does that mean that even if i had a pac code the number would not be transferable or would i have a number for a while then have the old one swapped over when the old one was cut off at end of the 30 days?

I didnt think you could get a pac code and give the pac code to the same network provider, i.e. Orange to Orange???

i think you can ask for it before the contract ends with a wish to transfer it to another company, though they maybe funny as your going back to the same company????

I'm fairly sure you can't transfer the number from one Orange contract to a new Orange contract in the same name. It's what the networks call 'Churn' and is something that represents a financial loss for them.

I don't think you'll be successful.

sorry you carnt do it. try to get the same deal by ring up orange and asking for retentions tell them you want the same deal or better or your off to some1 else. i do it every year with t-mobile and always get a better deal.last year it was flext 35 for £25 instead of £35 new n95 plus 5000 w/end mins to any phone.
if you want to keep the same number get your pac code move to t-mobile or o2 on a pay and go sim then move it to orange on your new contract you have up to a month to move it from the start of your new contract thats what i did when i first started with t-mobile.
