Default 2bar/3bar map sensor

Can a 3bar map sensor be used on a stage 1 steup or does it have to be a standard 2 bar map sensor

you can use a 3 bar....the difference between them is that the 3 bar can read higher boost...theyre the same low down

You can't imo, I am sure the fuelling will be out due to same pressures equalling different readouts on the two sensors, they still only have the same scale to play with.
Unless it was mapped with the sensor in use at the time of course.

nelly, 100% wrong there and you could have just cost someone an engine if they listened to you

the chip/map needs to be matched to the specific sensor

you could ofcourse buy a new stange1 chip from a reputable dealer that has been set up to work on a 3bar no problem

if i am wrong then i'm sorry

if people add chips, change sensors then the FIRST thing to do is get on the rollers and get the car setup......i do everytime i mess with mine..that way you need never blow up your motor

i think you misunderstand, its got nothing to do with setting the car up for safety.

[disclaimer, the information below is not 100% accurate but its enough to illustrate the point]
a map sensor gives an output of 0v-5v of it's minimum pressure reading to maxmium pressure reading

so at at 2bar map sensor at 0bar it gives 0v and at 2bar (1bar boost) 5v at 1bar (0 boost) it will give you 2.5v
a 3bar map sensor at 0bar gives 0v and at 3bar (2bar boost) 5v, at 1bar (0 boost) it will give you 1.6v!

spot the difference?

so, if your ECU is expecting to have a 2bar sensor connected and you connect up a 3bar it wont know youve gitted the wrong sensor, itll just be thinking youve got a different ammount of boost to what you really have! you can image how thats not exactly a good thing if youre runing full boost nailing it and your ECU thinkins you're just poodling on off boost!

so bottom line? you have to fit the CORRECT sensor that matches what the chip has been programmed for. and any reputable dealer can provide you with a chip specific for the sensor you have be it stage 1 or 700+bhp
