My cousin has just been round with a 04 plate RWD vito with a oil leak for me to look at and i think its from the front crank seal ???

Are these a comon leak or is it poss a leak from somewhere else and also what they like to do ???
Til today i thought Vito's only came in fwd form but never had much to do with merc vans.

 

cant help with that kev, but could do with the american car fraternity having a quick look at my dads motor for me.

got one of the heads off and found something i dont like the look of.........
know of any ford 390's knocking about?

all vitos are rwd

Done approx 40k in my 06 vito and has had a few issues,rear diff seals have gone twice, both rear dampers fooked,both rear springs snapped, v band clamp on exhaust snapped,window regulator fooked

Luckily its still under warranty so dont cost a penny but time,Last invoice i saw for rear diff seal was £4.80 for sealing ring, £185 to fit!

 

Was lead to beleive that they where fwd a while ago and never thought to look till now lol.
this one has done a 150k !!!

These vans can go round the clock 3x over...thats if the rust doesnt kill them!

 

i had a vito from new and mines fwd

 

im a truck mechanic by trade mate but never had anythin to do with anythin smaller than a sprinter in the merc range mate compared to most other makes ive worked on over the years

I better go tell mercedes that some joker has put a FWD engine and box in my vito and i want it taken out and a proper one put in !!!

 

I gotta late 54 plate lt 35 which is the same as a sprinter
I know they are good for lots of miles but even so i Just had all the belts,filters,fluids and gaskets changed so it should be good

 

used to run a fleet of them
window regulators were very comon
as were front suspensins, the abs/tc ligt comeing on (brake switch fault), bonnet release cables, ignition barrels, number plate light panels leaking water and rusting thourhg to anme but a few of the comon falts

rear rurspenion though is a fucker and the prings will pip ou or theyll span off the body mounts which really fuks shit up

 

also, can someone show us a picture of their fwd vito then?
